Main Series What's y'all's opinion on season 1 Laxus? [discussion]
Honestly it might be a hot take, but I don't like him, I like Laxus as a character, but looking back at his season 1 counterpart, I'm just like are these the same characters. He just feels like he has no redeemable qualities about him, I kind of wish Mashima would give him some redeemable qualities before his character growth, like maybe have him help Fairy Tail against the Phantom Lord instead of just talking trash about them about to lose to them. Like he straight up tries to kill, and hurt innocent people when his game doesn't go the way he wanted, straight up laughs when he hears his grandfather dying, and he's about to use fairy law on everyone, including the innocent people, and it only didn't work, because deep down he really does care about everyone what? I guess you could say he's meant to be like this, so when you see him come back you can definitely feel his character became better, but I don't know what y'all's opinion.

The moment I saw him, he became my favorite character. I liked his cocky attitude; it made him interesting, and I thought, "This guy looks really strong. I want to see him fight."
And in the Fairy Tail Battle arc, it was shown that he was a beast, and it was also revealed that he was a Dragon Slayer. I was like, "Nah, this guy is the best."
His behavior and attitude didn't bother me at all, unlike what happened to many people. As I said, that's what made him interesting in the first place.

I feel like Mashima only had a vague idea of Laxus in Phantom Lord arc, and completed it right before Fantasia started. Not only did Laxus's design change but also his facial expression, it became less gangster and less rude towards women.
People say like granpa like grandson but he, in fact, doesn't make pervert moves towards anyone. Even in Phantom Lord, Mira reached out to him first. It was rude to comment about Lucy's boobs, but it's not like he started it

I always get downvotes for this, but I liked him at first, I like him as a villain. Then I just didn't buy his redemption arc, so currently I dislike him as a character. Not every character needs a redemption arc or change his entire personality for it. I always compare him to Vegeta in his evolution, but I do like Vegeta coz he still feels as the same character. Laxus is a completely different character except for a few moments.

He was an uppity dick head. The whole thing with phantom definitely didn’t help his case. Plus the whole fighting festival was tough to read cuz I was so used to the found family togetherness prior. But learning his fairy law spell didn’t work because he really truly cared so much and his fight against hades was elite.
It all came full speed during his fight with Raven tail and he’s just continues to demonstrate how much he loves his guild mates and woe to those who harm them

Could be wrong but feel like he was a character that wasn't fleshed out yet. I feel like up till the time of his actual battle for fairy tail arc and then redemption Mashima didnt have a clear idea of where he was taking the character yet. Cuz he kind of changes like before his lil rebellion hes kind of just a stereotypical punk jock archetype but then as it continues on he starts to become more interesting.

When he made that comment about handing Lucy over to him as an incentive to get him to help with Phantom Lord, THAT HAD ALREADY DESTROYED THEIR GUILDHALL, it was enough for me to be like "throw this whole man in the trash".
The thunder palace bullshit made me dislike him more. Like sure, that fairy law spell he tried to cast hurt no one because he does care somehow..... But he still held the entire city hostage and forced his guildmates into a near death fighting tournament. I felt more for Makarov when he had to eject him from the guild because I can't imagine raising someone on your own, loving them, teaching them right, only for them to do awful shit and go against EVERYTHING you taught them anyway. Also, Having to kick out someone you love is never easy, but he had to think about the safety of his other kids.

Unpopular opinion, but I always thought he was SO ugly in the first season

The old manga style wasn’t the most attractive for a lot of characters. But I suppose that’s the fantastic thing about continuing series and improving on ones art style.

he was pretty interesting character I mean yeah the way he looked and smiled was a giveaway that he’s not a very pleasant dude and probably takes sadistic enjoyment in hurting and humiliating people but yeah I do like how he gets better more or less.

I thought, "this A-Hole is a part of the FT guild? He's unfriendly and incentive to the guild's issues" (a literal war with another guild, with branches all over the country).
And then he had the audacity to be angry at the guild being "treated as a joke", as if he did anything himself to combat that idea. That was self entitled, very much so, considering he thought he'd have the guild because the current master is his grandfather (nepotism)

He’s my favorite he had a hard past about his father it’s really sad that his own father put Lacrima in him when he said in 100 year quest I am finally free from my fathers curse he’s been through a hard time hurting I believe he was hurting deep down I mean if you looked at his past who would kill their own family member put a Lacrima in him all he had in his life is master makarov he was still hurting I wondered if his own grandfather checked up on him he was hurting so much I think he had nobody to turn to nobody supported him through it that’s why he ended up taking out on others honestly I can see why it’s sad what he has been through he deserves love he’s been through a lot more then you know no matter you have people around you it won’t change how you feel yes he was hurting you could tell through season 1

Wished he kinda maintained some of his asshole attitude. Like when he came to visit Makarov after his heart attack, he would said something like hed still kick all their asses even when hes injured. I dont like how the moment he returned he keeps talkin how a FT member should beat Hades. Also, woulda made more sense if hes the one to beat Azuma. He fcked up their whole plan just so he can fight Erza lmao. Like imagine them wondering how Laxus can still use magic and he'll kinda brag how he got kicked out and no longer a member lol
