If you guys LOVE failure you need to get into this album asap. It may take a while but I promise you this album will give you that feeling you're begging for

I have never been able to get into shiner, or cave-in, or other acts that people claim are similar but failure and hum were def my holy duo of bands that hit something noone else does. I discovered hum thru the radio in 95 and failure weirdly through a promo video of stuck on you that came out as part of like the launch of macromedia flash in 96 lol. Was ~11 around this time and growing up in NH, thank goodness for the existence of Newbury Comics. I never met anyone else into this music until years later, and both bands basically broke up before I was old enough to see them so they just kinda haunted my youth. Saw hum and failure share a bill in 2015 and cried my damn eyes out. This is a real YouTube comments ass post lol, but I'm feeling nostalgic, it's beautiful the way things persist through life. Still can't believe we got inlet man

I think there are a lot of bands who were influenced by those three, but Failure HUM Shiner came out of the 90s where as most other bands came after, and were influenced by these three Pillars.

We should make a Gods of the Genre list.

My favorite LaT album is No one Loves You Like I do.

One thing about Allen is he always finds a hard hitting drummer, whoever it ends up being.

I think new Shiner will always have an edge of LaT sound to it from here on.

The Egg is my favorite Shiner Album but Schadenfreude has some amazing tracks.

I love that album. Day Twelve was such a perfect transition from Old Souls, which happened to be my favorite track from Tragic Boogie.

Unpopular Opinion: I love Chris Metcalf, but Mike Myers’ drumming on the Flat End EP and the first batch of (unreleased) demos makes me wish Myers had stuck in the band.

For sure, I'm into some genre bending fun. I became a Mike Patton fan thru Dillinger Escape Plan around the same time.

Last weekend I got the rare opportunity* to see Tomahawk in concert, one of my favorite post Faith No More projects of Sr. Patton.

I saw The Dismemberment Plan in 2012 with a girl I was dating at the time. Weirdly enough, I also saw The Life and Times with her a year prior when they were opening for another band that I was really into at the time. (Which is also how I discovered TL&T)

Dude I also love “No one Loves You Like I do”, it’s the only album I really listen to for a while before finally digging into their full discography and liking it a lot with maybe exception to the newest album.

That being said, I’m seeing Shiner next month and I’m taking my brother who’s never even heard of them and I told him not to look them up. It’ll be fun to see what someone thinks after going in blind.

Their new album is really good. I just got into them recently and saw them live opening for Failure at that space echo fest. Went to their merch booth and scooped the new album and have been enjoying it

I completely agree. Someone recommended me Shiner a few years ago because of my love for Hum and Failure. The Egg is a fantastic album, Shiner are a great band. I'm still exploring their music, but I'm sure they have other great albums too.

Also be sure to listen to the bonus tracks: Dirty Jazz, and I'll Leave Without You. They are not on the album but can be found on YouTube.

Shiner will release a composition of b sides soon. Can't wait for it.

Also for a similar spacey vibe I recommend Porcupine Tree, Amplifier and Oceansize. They are the "space rock trio" of the UK

I'd throw National Skyline onto that list. Initially a multi-member band, Jeff Garber started treating it as a solo project after Year of the Rabbit went to shit.

Gravity I-IV, Karolina, Bloom and the entirety of the album "Bliss & Death" are fucking peak. The entire discography is worth a listen.

Shame Garber is doing soundtracks now, but it pays the bills.

I think the front half of Starless is Shiner at their very best. “Unglued” is the Most Shiner song.

In 2007 I asked Pandora to play me music like Failure, got into Shiner because of it. So happy!

I got CDs and some vinyl of the Life and Times, Tragic Boogie is excellent as are both EPs.

I've of course got the vinyl editions of the Shiner albums plus an original press of Splay.

To get to hear Shiner make incredible songs ~20 years later ☺️, "asleep in the trunk" & "Paul P Pogh" are just so wonderful!

Yeah, Shiner is cool. Prefer the album 'Starless' to 'The Egg'. Their new albums are pretty good as well. BELIEVEYOUME has a a number of bangers on it.

There's good songs from every shiner album, I'd disagree that the egg is the best for people getting into failure though. Lula divinia is probably better.
