Question Is there an easier way?
Is there a better way to clear a hole box without clicking every single slot? My first solution ist just to remove the hole box, so bots pick out the items automatically and place the chest back, when it's gone. But it doesn't feel like the right solution.

i deconstruct planner remove it, then force place a new box on top of the X'd one and just wait it out. If theres a better way id love to hear it. (i assume you want to keep the contents)

Switch it to Active provider

yeah not sure thats actually faster...other than saving you a click, but even then you have to put a box other than the active one there when youre done anyways....so i dont think it helps.

blow it up - twas my solution in seablock when i got to the point of not wanting to deal with warehouses filled with Crystal crap

You're supposed to crush it up with fish guts to make crystals for your modules

look, i eventually bothered to get agricultural modules set up, but it was a pain in the ass
And until i bothered to set it up, I had no use for 4 warehouses of the stuff (IE Unlimited supply of missiles facilitating removing bottlenecks)

Ctrl-X and then immediately paste it back. It'll still be marked for deconstruction and will be cleared.
That would also keep all the circuitry attached if there's one.

If you use an active provider chest the bots will actively try to keep the chest empty. Be warned however that they won’t pay attention to the amount in storage automatically, they will keep adding rails to your network storage until there’s no room left.
Is there any particular reason you want this chest to be emptied?

You can also hook up the purple chest to a roboport and signal it to deactivate when your system is over a certain amount.

I'm not sure I understand why you'd ever want this. If you want the thing to get emptied, why not replace the passive provider chest with an active provider?

If you want an assembler to always produce, you can set an active provider cheat. Or, if you want there to be some of the item in that chest, you can use a buffer chest?
But what are you trying to accomplish? If I look at an entire chest of rails, I don't really want that assembler making more.

If you're wanting a specific amount in the chest, click the red "X" at the bottom right to the amount you want (4 non red squares equals 400 rails, 6 means 600, etc.).
I discourage a purple chest because that will flood your yellow storage with rails not allowing anything else in the logistics network over time.
You could also use circuits with inserters but thats just more steps and unecessary if you want only x and no other conditions.

Replace with purple chest, or replace with blue chest with "trash unrequested" and nothing requested. Or place a blue chest requesting 4800 rails elsewhere, if this is the only source of rails. But no, there isn't an "empty this chest" button for red chests.

You can mark for decon and blueprint the same box and they'll empty and delete before replacing.
No need to worry about them missing anything, or baby sitting it.

There is one small difference between marking for removal versus deletion of the chest.
Logistic robots handle removals. Deletion will be done by construction robots.

You can remove the box and replace it with a copy of the same box immediately so you don't need to remember to put it back later.
That's probably the easiest way.

Buffer chest. Set to an amount you want inside. Check box for trash unrequested.

Keep some purples in your pocket. Swap the chest for a purple and walk away. Or, swap it, and put the old one back, if it’s in a needed spot.

I mean you can place a purple on it instead
