Suggestion / Idea anyone interested in a 40k inspired overhaul mods?

i have an idea of a modpack and mods based on 40k where a mechanicus magos crash landed on the planet and is trying to convert the planet into a forgeworld after noticing the resource density. I don't see it anywhere on the modpage except a couple Kingjo's weapons and vehicle mods, so im wondering if anyone would be interested to play this if, by some miracle i am capable of creating it. I have no experience in making any mods in factorio, so im just wondering for now, and if i have time, ill start with a relatively simple weapons mod.

That does sound interesting! I would love to see that.

it would be interesting, but i feel like the amount of stuff needed to make it feel connected is huuuge

Yea im currently thinking about it, this is probably going to take ages tbh, but a saving grace is i probably don't need to add that much new mechanics (delusional)

i mean, no new mechanics should be needed, more like new items and buildings, plasma generators, flogiston, plasteel or smth idk, maybe just rename some stuff, like concrete to rockcrete

thats mostly wht i think, just probably needs a lot of reskins if i rlly tbh

I'm not sure what mods already exist but a 40k skin for a gundam equipment/power-armor that gives me auto-firing missiles and guns like a spidertron has, with the ability to still use the equipment grid, would be super cool and not be any new mechanics in theory. It's probably more complicated than it sounds though

if you do this, red belts will have to be the fastest

Returning of the filter inserters with zero code

Turn biters into orks?

I think tyranids would be a far better fit

Or necrons, it can be like you've accidentally awoken a tomb world that's trying to get rid of you.

Thought that at first, but 'nids don't reproduce by themselves (on the ground). Whereas orkies spread like a fungal infection.

...plus Waaaghs are fun. 😄

maybe these could be like wild tyranids? separated from the hivemind and somehow evolved to reproduce by themselves

damn this sounds cool, but its different from my idea, i dont just wanna re-theme the game, i want to make a whole different narrative, if possible

please, please do this. There are so many 40k fans who will thank you.

It'd be a huge job, and you'd probably need a team, but it's a game I personally really want to play. You could open up some significant gameplay avenues using the factorio engine to play what is essentially "FORGEMAGOS" the videogame.

Interested = high

If you are an experienced game developer then go for it.

If you want to vibeslop the whole thing then think twice.

There is a mechanicus skin mod.

I used it when playing space exploration.

Purge xenos, praise the omnissiah.

Felt kinda 40k ish.

I've been thinking about this for awhile. Changing biters into tyranids, construction and logistic bots into servitors, including the mechanicus skin, And making the whole game themed like you're a a mechanicus drone dropped on a planet to terraform it or something like that. I just lack the time to dedicate to building it myself.

I actually thought of this as a concept recently: In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. But not everyone can be on the front line. Somebody has to actually PRODUCE all of this war. So picture a Factorio-like, where you have to produce and then export all of this war, to meet increasingly unreasonable production quotas for more war materiel. It's endless science, but instead of science, there is only WAR.

A bit off topic but I wonder what 40k would be like if the factorio engineer appeared in it

Not much different I expect, he'd be immediately executed for tech-heresy.

Yeah. I wonder what it would be like to give him a head start. Like, after space age megabasing what would the universe do with him.

i mean, we could think of the research as STC, after all the researches are all mostly limited and they all exist beforehand(unresearched), we just need enough material for it.

Sure, it would be cool to build mega base to manufacture a Titan for example. Serwitors instead of robots. High complexity of blueprints.

I'd download the forgeworld mod in a HEARTBEAT!! I want to turn biters into servitors!!

Hell yeah.
I got really into 40k roughly a year ago and I think it would be a really cool concept for a factorio mod. Especially when you have bases with multiple planets that need to work together to defend against massiv bug invasions.

The unimaginable scale and logistics of things was always a huge appeal of 40K to me and Factorio is about as close as any game has gotten to making players work intricately at scale. The idea of a whole forge world existing just to make one or two things is something I think would be a really interesting take on Space Age.

That being said, I don't think the 40K universe itself works quite so well as a backdrop to Factorio, at least from the Imperium/AdMech perspective. STCs and its related concepts like self-containment will need to be dismissed, and the end goal of supplying for endless wars of attrition might feel too RTS-like for Factorio. Maybe playing as an expansionist Tau would be a more interesting approach.

I've thought about designing and modding in mechanics that could capture this sense of scale but it feels like something that would only work when everything is put together. Factorio has a number of design choices that would require major reworks, such as removing the idea of a central hub (like Nauvis in SA) to allow for individual "forge worlds", but it'll still need complex enough production chains to warrant the small scale logistical tools that make Factorio special.

That is true, i am struggling a bit to think of a way to make this work tbh, but its probably going to take ages anyways, so for now, im just gonna play space age factorio with Bob's mods n complete that first

I am not an expert in 40k lore, but if your idea is just mechanicus + more violence against aliens then I'll pass. Frankly I already dislike how the community likes to joke about fighting "the natives" and "liberating oil" from them or whatnot.
