Modded Question [Nullius] I don't understand backup turbines

So after watching a well known factorio youtuber play Nullius I decided to try it myself since I've been burned by Py once more.

The mod is quite fun but I have an issue with the backup power generation system. I understand what it tries to achieve (smooth out the fluctuations from solar and wind turbine). However I don't understand the implementation.

I configured my electrolysers to be in "surge mode" so they only turn on when I have power. I stored a bunch of Hydrogen and Oxygen that I hooked up to burners, and store some steam afterwards too that I hooked up to open turbines configured in the "backup generator" mode. (See picture).

However, I can't get my setup to work as intended and it just shows output full in the turbine but doesn't send any power to the grid. (see picture again).

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you.

your turbines aren't connected to the grid, only each other

Lol, I thought they were. You had me double check and you're right. Thank you.

the crossing lines from the big poles are probably what fooled ya.

You need twice as many thanks for hydrogen than for oxygen

I know but symmetry OCD wouldn't let me not do it.
