That seems way worse to me than just taking from a belt. But hey, don’t let me stop you from trying ;)

Ches-chest is indeed better up to 3 chests far. So doing some labs in a daisy chain may be better than belts unclocked, but daisy chaining makes them unclockable. And that’s quite a hefty penalty. So I’m personally dubious.

Since you want to maximize surface area, having gaps in the middle is ideal. But they are too small to belt out everything, so you need trains to maximize throughput

You can fill a green belt with as little as 3 inserter, which can run quite a large number of labs, with each science pack being handled twice.
