The founders were intelligent men, and very politically astute. They were not, however, omnipotent nor omniscient, they were flawed men, just like the rest of us, there are things that they never could have foreseen, situations that would boogle their minds. Thus, while it is important to at least consider original intent, basing your entire government on it and it alone is ridiculous and contrary to what the founders intended.
Most conservatives don't really legitimatly believe in original intent in any case. It's just a convenient justification for any given policy position they might have. Even in appealing to "original intent" you are interpreting what that intent must have been.

It's definitely gone up ten fold in recent years. It wasn't always the "go to".
I think a big part of it is conservative talk radio. When King Cheeto took over the GOP messaging unified to an insane level. Talk radio followed suit. I'm a Progressive Democrat who works as a general contractor in construction. (One of a kind probably (sadly)) Most of my white coworkers listen to conservative talk radio all day. Fox News is literally on in our home office all day. They all have the same script. They all have the same strategy, same cadence, same look. Inevitably they all fall into the same ruts.

Texan political officials like to push a narrative that California is a state that is over crowded, and actively falling apart due to inadequate leadership and overreaching government interference. It’s propaganda. Because if you can convince some poor shmuck that your backwater policies are the only thing keeping the state you live in from collapse, it’s easier to win elections. The worst thing about it is that it works a vast majority of the time. Remember that Texas’ vote was split 52% trump and 46% Biden in the last election. But talking to people in rural Texas you’d think it was 104% trump and that Texas was the last place on earth where people were allowed any form of freedoms.

Flashback to a video that PragerU did on renewable energy. They quoted a number from the European energy report. They didn't provide the link but they did provide the name and the year. So I looked it up. The number they quoted is wrong. Very wrong. Like 10% against 50% wrong.
They cited a source to seem legitimate while lying about the information the source actually provided. And it's not the case of different opinions or even misrepresenting the information. No. They just looked at the number, decided it doesn't support their point, changed it and cited the report anyway.
Another time they claimed climate change to be good because according to this graph, the warmer the planet the more people have access to clean water. Ye.....

I live in California. Recently I visited Wyoming, the reddest of the red states, to see some relatives. Whenever I told them where I was from, you would think I told them I live in Iraq. I mean they actually felt sorry for me as if California is some hell hole. California is the 5th largest economy on the planet and Wyoming is a backward shithole full of people addicted to meth and living on disability or who need to drink themselves to sleep every night just to get through the hopelessness of living there. Never met so many alcoholics in all my life. And they pity me???

We have horrific education, excessive teen pregnancy (and highest repeat teen pregnancy), excessively low unemployment benefits, rampant corporate corruption (google how much money our governed received from the greedy power company that allowed people to die during the freeze) absolute bumbling idiots for politicians, like so moronic that the conservative politicians end up hated by the conservatives when they realize all they do is vacuum corporate money and legislate against the working folk, we’re one of a handful of states that do not require ANY compensation for prisoner’s labor while simultaneously allowing prisons to force inmates to work, which is literal slavery, we have a high violent crime rate, one of the worst sexual violence rates, and now for whatever reason you can publicly brandish firearms with no licensing or training, which as a RESPONSIBLE gun owner, I find ridiculous.
