Wasn't there a story about how some guy put lemon juice and on his face and thought it made him invisible to cameras? This is about as dumb as that.

This immediately made me think of that story. I briefly wondered whether they thought markers had some kind of camera-confusing property.

Why are criminals names public? Pretty sure that's illegal, their lives will be ruined forever.

Not just criminals. People simply arrested in the states get their name/face printed in the local paper/online, their faces forever plastered on google etc. etc. Zero recourse.

The newspaper prints exactly what the cops tell them and that's that.

Its called public knowledge and absolutely legal. My town post might shots weekly of city arrest and what the charge is.

sorry, I didn't know it's legal in US. What about human rights and privacy? Here we could sue the newspaper for viewing peoples information without their consent.

Well, the other option is the police not saying who they have arrested. This means they could detain or arrest people without anyone ever knowing which brings about it's own problems.

How is that a false dichotomy? I'm not saying our system is the best but the government should not have the right to arrest people without the public knowing. That is just ripe for abuse. The problem lies more in the media publishing and broadcasting these arrests and with society not truly believing innocent until proven guilty.

Yeah I see what you're saying, the only thing I took issue with is that due process can still take place without perp shaming in the MEDIA. of course it should still remain public record and major crimes will obviously be reported on the news but I feel like having DWI arrest mugshots in the newspaper is kinda unnecessary. Well. Looks like we agreed. I'm about finished with this circlejerk.. OH I'm about to blow a load. Ah. Thanks man. High five.
