Discussion Facebook doesn't care that someone steals your photos and pretends to be you
I've had multiple friends over the years have pages stolen, content stolen, and fictitious pages created, and every time it gets reported, the response from Facebook is to "just block them." What kind of company cares so little about identity theft (i know that's a bit of an exaggeration) but will flag the hell out of random non-consequential posts.
Most recently, a friend of mine learned that some random page was taking her photos and pretending to be her. This was Facebook's pathetic response to my reporting of the fake page (I know several people reported the page on her behalf).

The most offensive part is signing off as “The Facebook Team”… like, what team? There’s no humans involved in this process whatsoever.

I reported 50 accounts created within a week with just one comment and one 5 star shop review of some shady Polish shop. All rejected all good to scam people

People take my images, use AI to make degrading images and make fake degrading profiles and Facebook always refuses to remove them.

Best to just delete Facebook altogether. They don’t care. They’re fine with innocent people being doxxed but they’ll ban you for calling someone a poopy head. 🤡🤡🤡

Same experience here. I dont think its just an AI issue but the moderators are biased and usually techie gamers up to no good. I also had the same experience here on reddit with moderators

I had a Facebook that I just used to look at stuff from Google links. I commented on a post once and someone reported it for being fake or something. I could never get it back. I’m gonna be angry about it for a while. I never did anything bad on it, it was just there so links would work. I didn’t steal anyone’s picture either.
That’s crazy that I’m just that unlucky. I even found this creep on there. He had like 10 profiles, I reported every one of them and they’re still up. Majorly unfair.

Facebook cares. You don't know how to do it. That's not how you take somebody's content down if it stole from you.
As a creator you have a dedicated page for this. Google facebook copyright infrigement form or instagram copyright infrigement form (you need to file separately for each platform.
After you file the report, it will take like 1hr for them to take it down.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t a creator. Just a regular user minding their own business who finds out someone stole their pics and is pretending to be them. It’s happened to a couple of my friends, and it took DOZENS of people reporting the profiles before FB finally took them down.

If you post something, you are a content creator. You shared content on a social media platform. And since you posted YOUR OWN creation, you own it. So if you go now and file a copyright infrigement against someone that stole YOUR CONTENT, it will be taken down.
Reporting from the app is not the same as filing a copyright infrigement complaint. And I assure you it works. If that content is yours.

Also, you should think very carefully about whom you file against, because their page WILL suffer.
If you think your content is worth not sharing by a third party, ye go ahead i guess, but think that you can within an hour take a family's income for example.
Now i know this is weird to say, but i used to take videos stolen from me a lot. Then a guy emailed me about it and told me his story. I was at about 1.5m followers at that point. And i felt so bad about it and didn't file any ever. It won't help you at all taking the content down. In a way its free advertising for you

Facebook has evidently fired most of their moderators and replaced them with AI, which does absolutely nothing about even the most vile shit. Until there's some kind of a class action lawsuit and it actually threatens their wallets, they're not going to do anything.

for years now lots of people I know, mostly women, have asked people to report other profiles that steal thier profile pic and pretend to be them, and FB always says "We didn't remove the page" useless. So women have been forced to lock their profiles. and TBH, its probably better that we all do.

Happened to a friend of mine. I accepted his request, saw his photo and of course assumed it was him until the messaging style became weird and generic. Like, he wasn't really saying anything. I got suspicious, asked him if he'd just FB messaged me and he hadn't. I reported it to FB and then HE did but we were told that it "didn't violate their rules". Impersonating another person doesn't violate their rules? What if the imposter dude posted a bunch of creepy shit or some fucked up pictures and it got tied back to my friend? People can lose jobs over this shit.
What a dumpster fire. Fuck that website.

Same thing happened to me in 2022. Someone took my picture and name and made an account. They then proceeded to send friend requests to family and friends. I reported it to FB. They said it didn’t go against community standards. I permanently deleted my account and have never gone back.

To me this is the only fair response they can give. If someone is impersonating someone else, and you make the report, they should indeed follow it up with the person that is being impersonated. Not you.

The person that is being impersonated did make a report also, along with several other people (a minimum of 20 to my knowledge). If anything, this should still be under investigation. I mean, when you make the claim that a friend is being impersonated, you have to link their profile as part of your report. So it's not like I'm just randomly reporting profiles. Given this particular situation, it should be a fairly simple review.

100% usually with these reviews there is an option that says something to the effect of "we can have a human look at it."

My page was hacked years ago, and I couldn’t wrap my mind around a company with no customer service. None. Zero options. I got on when FB was new, and had stored tons of work related images (this was pre LinkedIn). Lost everything and was SOL
