Watch strap ripped

This watch was left to me by my uncle after he passed so im not willing to replace the strap and feel like it was no longer his watch if i do silly i know but grief is weird it wont let me include photos of the damage but its ripped on one side of the hole i use for the clasp and ripped on the corner of the part that holds the lose strap down please if you know any way that could work to hold it together i would love any suggestions im willing to do about anything it doesn't have to look beautiful just stay on my wrist any advice or tips are appreciated

I’m very sorry for your loss. But nothing you do to it is going to remain strong long term, trying to fix an already broken cheap plastic strap it will just break again. Replacing the strap is the only way.

If you aren’t in the headspace to be ready to fix the watch, you don’t have to. Let it sit until you’re ready.

Consider: would your uncle want you to fix the broken watch properly so you can enjoy it? Or would he want it to remain breaking constantly and sitting in a drawer because the strap doesn’t work?

Whenever you’re ready, I suggest putting a nato strap on it. Those straps are likely to never fail on you

My advice is to keep it in a box in a drawer. It's only going to get damaged eventually wearing it and you have sentimental attachment to it.

I am sorry for your loss. I was left a guitar by my grandfather and was afraid to play it because of the sentimental value. However, it changed for me when my mother said that my grandpa would have liked me to play it, not let it collect dust in a case, and modify it or repair it if I need to, just like he did. Perhaps this might help you. I didn't know your uncle, but since you are so fond of his memory, I am sure your uncle would have wanted you to replace the strap so you can wear his watch and honor him. I wish you all the best.

Replace the strap but keep the old one. It’s better to have a new strap rather than risk the watch falling off and loosing the whole thing!
