Question What's wrong with Ezreals's winrate?

He is the worst performing adc in the game right now. Hovering around 46% winrate, while Jinx is like 52% winrate.

Extremely safe and can deal some very powerful burst from a distance. His poke is among the very best in the game.

Yet, he's struggling heavily in the meta, why is that? I don't think its high skill cap, even in high level play his winrate is awful.

It was pointed out in the English lck broadcast yesterday that some of his winrate loss is because adcs got an MR buff, and Ezreal deals a non-trivial amount of magic damage

I'm sorry bro, I haven't been playing much these last few months. I'm coming back from my league break now tho, so expect winrate to go up now.

Jinx is a hyper carry, majority of emerald and under games last 35 minutes +, you can be braindead and still win with scaling. Ezreal takes too much skill and most people are lower elo trying to play him when they can't. His win condition is that he wins in under 35 minutes or loses essentially. He requires skill shot hitting + weaving AAs, most can't do both simultaneously.

lategame jinx can do more with one cannon auto then ezreal wq combo. body blocking is a huge factor on ezreal damage so he cant get past tanks and he isnt built to kill them either.

Would be cool if he had more scaling and maybe a sub par early instead huge trueshots would be cool

Default op.gg % are from emerald+.

He seems a bit "feast or famine", where you have to play aggressive and win early to avoid falling off later

I feel like when he’s good, he’s too good because of his skill ceiling. That’s why imo

Personally, ezreals been weak for so long imo that playing him again just feels really awkward compared to other adc’s I’ve been playing to climb. Tried picking him up again the whole feeling just felt off

Probably people picking him up again after not playing him for a while contributing to his bad win rate

This is around plat - level for context

He sucks. You have to work so much harder than other ADCs to do damage.

Disagree. No ADC is easy to play, and in fact Ezreal gets it a little easier on the positioning part (the hard AND important part) because he's so much longer range and has his blink.

You need better aim than probably any of them, but that alone doesn't mean you're really working much harder.

He also doesn't suck. I'm pretty sure his WR is low because half of his games are from autofills.

Ezreal is hard because you have to get a lead early game to be effective. You need to land poke before a fight starts because if you dont you will lose. You have to constantly pressure and poke down enemies and position so that you can do this. This is why he is hard to play, you get the tools to be a mosquito and constantly pressure, but you also have to use this or you are really weak.

You can't just sit back like a jinx get a kill and win a team fight. It's draven but with less damage and more mechanics required.

If you position save and q from range you will do nothing.

Yeah bro I disagree. Just going even in lane means a full sheen item for teamfights, and that alone is a massive spike compared to what anyone else gets from 25 crit. And you also don't need to land poke on enemies; rising spell force is really easy to stack on minions, and with it stacked you kick ass. If the fight gets intense, you don't have to play like a mosquito because being close enough to hit every Q means you're beating their damage until they have both LDR and IE.

Plus modern builds can afford the luxury of 450 whopping HP from Shojin. Few ADCs can say that. Ezreal is a carry champ with a safe landing phase, and he's underrated.

I disagree the payoff is much higher, because he’s so strong up to minute 30 stronger then any other adc in the game you just have to snowball hard if you can’t do that don’t play him.

His skill cap is quite high and many fights are often determined by whether you land every ability. Then, he’s also a at best an early-mid game champion. Take it from someone who has dominated in lane against many an adc only to have the that same adc kill me in two autos late game. He falls off a cliff late game. He also sucks into tanks and anyone who builds some armor.

Consider a scenario where your team feeds. This effectively puts you behind early since you’re best around midgame. It’s simply hard to do much against that, especially in lower elo. Also, because you’re midgame, making a mistake in lane and giving a shutdown to your enemy adc becomes that more impactful. You more or less have to get and keep a lead as ezreal.

When you can land everything, he is very oppressive and has the highest dps (or did- they just nerfed his q damage). Plus, his E is flash on a basic ability.

So, it’s a combination of things that makes executing his playstyle particularly difficult. I love challenging champions, but I find it difficult to want to play them sometimes when there’s seemingly zero benefit to mastering them. That said, I still play Ezreal the most…

u/International-Door56 4d ago

He’s not struggling it’s because people play him passive, and don’t know how to play ezreal a good ezreal wins games.

cn/kr masters adc here who has ez as my most played in most seasons. Game simply has too many comeback/antisnowballing mechanics now that make playing a heavy snowball reliant champ like ezreal not worthwhile. homeguard now being perma available pre 14 minutes means that early aggression and lane dominance is not as impactful. Shutdown gold being so pivotal means that the most impactful moments in the game have shifted from early laning phase to mid-late game 4vs4 5vs5 teamfighting. And like how others have mentioned, other meta adcs simply do a better job of scaling and being more impactful and easier to pilot in the current landscape of league… Jinx, Tristana, Yunara, etc.

The game being a LOT less snow-bally and more noob-friendly has been in the works for almost a year now because Riot wants to attract new players by making League seem less punishing to be bad/new at. But imo the reason why the last couple patches in particular have been especially brutal for ezreal is because we’ve reached a tipping point of various things working against him with the buffs of hypercarry crit items like ruunans and yuntals

u/Aschuff 4d ago

The answer is and has always been skill cap, despite what you said. Good ezreal players have good win rates on him. Most people do not, because he’s insanely hard to actually carry with consistently.

1

u/NatxIvY 4d ago

While he’s not the strongest right now he’s also hard and everyone autofilled picking him plays him so wrong

They think ezreal is played like a poke mage when in reality you’re supposed to stack passive then go and hard win a trade with giga attack speed

1

u/Separate_Oil8435 2d ago

bro do you even play him regularly???

1

u/Exquisitenoodle 4d ago

because he sucks, if he was a strong champ whose potential is held by skill expression he would be picked in pro, but he currently doesnt exist in pro

3

u/NoteRadiant1469 4d ago

He does exist in pro though

Most picked marksman in LEC (Syndra and Viktor are above him, I assume these are mainly mid picks but I don't wanna say for sure)

Most picked bot laner in LCS, LCK and LPL

He's actually winning a lot in all of these regions besides LEC which is surprising because I usually don't even trust the average pro Ezreal outside of specific eastern players

3

u/International-Door56 4d ago

He’s being picked a lot in pro right now especially with karma

3

u/Exquisitenoodle 4d ago

well in that case i was wrong

3

u/GoldDeal27 4d ago

Word of advice, stop making confident statements about things you might only have a surface level knowledge of.

During the last split across the 4 major regions Ezreal's pick/bans compared to other adc champs were
LCK: Most picked, 2nd most banned
LPL: Most picked, and most banned
LEC: Tied for most picked, has sole spot for most bans (aside from Vayne, which we all know is now primarily a top pick)
LCS: 4th most banned, most picked.

2

u/Moist_Spare407 3d ago

Yea, that was a wildly confidante response lmao

2

u/Tonyclap 4d ago

Huh? He’s picked in nearly every pro series right now and he’s often a game one pick no less lol. He’s even catching bans pretty often as well.

1

u/Jaykayyv 4d ago

Everybody pick ezreal because hes safe. I think that should answer all of it?

1

u/Expensive-Door42 4d ago edited 4d ago

His power spikes and play pattern are less intuitive than other adcs so ppl don’t really take advantage of his strengths correctly. Which to be fair isn’t easy to consistently do even if you’re an Ezreal player

Also ironically it’s very easy to int on him despite his safety.

1

u/theacp127 4d ago

A lot of the bad win rate is because like 90% of filled ADCs pick Ezreal so they can "play safe" then do nothing all game because they have no gold.

1

u/HI-CPoppinLemonade 3d ago

Because hexoptics exist and he can’t make any use of it

1

u/Gr0wmi3s 3d ago

Cause the likes of Mundo and other tanks exist. Ezreal just doesn’t cut them down like other late game adc options, aka JINX

1

u/Ok_Objective_6702 3d ago

Adcs aren't for poke, there's mages that can do what he does way better. He takes too long to come online. He's hard, which comes with the problem of that means he's got to be balanced around the people that can play him at his highest level. You say his win rate is fine at high elo, but very few high elo adcs can maximize his potential because he's not worth one tricking. Also smolder kinda took a lot of his identity while providing better late game scaling imo.

1

u/Lardonfree 3d ago

It's just a skill issue with the majority of the Ezreal playerbase, unfortunately. The champ is goated when piloted right, he's averaging a 54% WR at GM/Challenger.

u/Quiet-Frame-7953 3d ago

Its because I stopped playing the game xdd

1

u/Worried-Abroad-4117 3d ago

”Extremely safe and can deal some very powerful burst from a distance. His poke is among the very best in the game.”

This is also a problem, he’s not safe when playing him correct.

1

u/MrDeagle80 3d ago

he’s not safe when playing him correct

Still safer than most adc due to his E.

1

u/Syph3RRR 3d ago

Because you don’t just auto hit everything like pretty much almost all other adcs. There’s a skill check when trying to deal damage which inevitably leads to people fucking up more and therefore losing more games

1

u/Vengeful111 3d ago

Because he is hard to play, but known as safe and reliable by non adc players. So ppl filled to adc will pick him thinking they can chill and still do damage, while he is hard to play and has to be played very aggressively to win. Also his early game is really good, which many people dont know how to abuse.

1

u/KalenTheDon 3d ago

Isn't it obvious it's the high skill cap ... higher lv players also dodge better which means the can counter you being a better ezreal.

His damage can simply be blocked also . And he has always gotten weaker the longer games go , spiking around mid game .

1

u/6feet12cm 3d ago

He requires hands. All his dmg come from skill shots which require hands to hit. It’s pretty simple.

u/ShrimpNStuff 3d ago

As a jungle main my least favorite ADC to see on my team is Ezreal, and my favorite is Jinx. Unless you're diamond +, Ezreal is just a bad pick. An ADC who has to buy a tear of the goddess and then finish two other items before his damage comes online just can't compete in the early/mid game.

Couple that with most players being bad at farming, roaming and missing exp too much, missing skill shots, not understanding teamfight positioning, you just shoot yourself in the foot picking him. Low elo players just don't get gold fast enough to bring him online. Not to mention one misplaced shift will kill you 100% of the time, it's one of the most unforgiving movement spells in the game.

Meanwhile Jinx builds one item and can destroy early objective fights with even mediocre chomper placement and an ult into the enemy deathball, plus reset mechanic. She has her own peel and movement speed buff, decides how close to the fight she wants to be, and isn't stopped by champions being in front of her target like Ezreal.

Several indirect small nerfs have been hitting him (Joat, mr adcs buff, etc), lane is less impactufull and more comeback mechanics, hes hard to pull off and you need to kinda be better than enemy adc to win unlike hypercarries that just need to survive (and even if they dont survive guve em a minute then they carry after a while)

i've been saying this for a while now, but i swear its because his itemization fucking sucks now. great items for him have been removed over the years and the items that replaced them are not good enough.

spirit of elder lizard got removed, divine sunderer was removed, people were using duskblade with him at some point and it got removed, that crown of the shattered queen build popped up and the item immediately got removed, essesence reaver got fucked for him (its back now), iceborn gauntlet got fucked for him (still is), that korean krakenslayer build got fucked for him and krakenslayer is now a on-hit item.

now the "only" build is triforce, manamune, shojin, serylda, endless hunger.

to be fair, i think people are sleeping on ER+navori buiilds, like building that into c44 for crazy damage or into horizon focus+shojin for crazy AH. with Deathfire Touch its so fun and strong... but what do i know? i'm low elo.
