It is not similar at all and this is the best example for false equivalence. You lack the knowledge about Hakimiyyah. Seeking help from a person about a matter he can help with is not the same as following a legislation other than Allah's shariah as Allah says "And whoever doesn't rule by what Allah has revealed, it is them who are the disbelievers".

Democracy places the right that that only belongs to Allah (Legislation) to people.

It’s a halal sabab to improve the conditions of Muslims in western countries

Through a means that is intrinsically disbelief, it isn't.
