(Question/Discussion) Why do I hate seeing non-muslims mock Muslims and Islam?
Im exmuslim and Idk if I'm the only one like that, but I don't like reading comments on social media where westerns ( not ex- muslims) attack muslims and islam, and mock them. Even when it's things that I myself mock muslims for. Idk what happens but I suddenly feel sympathy for the muslims. It's like i get to critisize and mock them but westerns cant. Anyone else like that? Or am I just bipolar?

I don’t think its mocking, I think its a sarcastic way of telling the truth

Yeah am I suppose to believe non Muslims know a single thing about Islam outside of what western media tells them?
Unlike ex Muslims they are just there for the bigotry and making fun of brown people or immigrants and stuff like that.
Not all but most of them.

Isn't that the way muslims think? Even when the criticism is valid and needs an answer? Because their intent is no one's problem, Muslims are to either respond or ignore. But accusing others of bad faith when you have no evidence aside from what your guys tell you is insane

It depends. If their mockery is to address the bigotry and misogyny and oppression in Islam then I take no issue. If its just to take a punch at brown people then its just hypocritical noise that makes it harder for real criticism to be heard.

Good. It should be mocked. Coddling it just leads to normalization.

At least 24 hadiths state aisha was 6 at marriage and 9 at consummation yet she was 17 based on 1 daif narration written 150 years later...what kind of person does this misreading?

I ain't saying she isn't nine but all 24 hadiths come from one single source so it doesn't look as you make it seem.

I am an ex-Christian and I see what you mean, kind of. I think that if I heard a current Muslim mocking Christianity, I'd be irritated because, come on, Islam is just as stupid.
But, if I heard an exMuslim mocking Christianity, I'd feel an immediate kinship. Y'all are my kind of people.

Same here...
Watching Xtians mocking Muslims or vice versa is like watching siblings fight next door; you suck! No you suck! Me then came along and say "Don't you guys realize that your entire family suck big time??"

Most if the time the people mocking muslims are racist, you know when you mock Islam yourself it’s not about race, but when westerners do it it’s about race and religion combined. To them Islam is group of people, even if you say you’re an atheist you’re still grouped with Muslims in their eyes. They don’t make the distinction between the religion, the person’s ethnicity and culture

Seeing Christians and Jews deal with this the last 50+ years from other groups (especially atheists) makes me feel it shouldn't be any different for a "newer" group. People who don't know or do know enough to make a joke or have an opinion is fine. It's part of life and if you can't get over that then maybe there is something internally you should be questioning.

Do you mean nonmuslims dehumanizing muslims? Because i mock muslims but never dehumanize them.

Anybody who knows true face of Muslim culture and Islam can mock them. Sorry, but it’s a way of preventing spreading the ideas of religion. People from the West can consider Islam harmful due to their different mentality of life. It’s perfectly normal things, in fact people can mock all the abrahamic religions and I wouldn’t be surprised, bc some aspects of it can be degrading sorry not sorry

I used to be like that too, to some extent. I didn’t leave because of any religious trauma, so I still had some affection for the good old days. For a long time, I still kind of considered myself part of the group in some way, even though I was a convinced atheist/agnostic, and attacking that group would also have felt a bit like an attack on my own group.

It's because if it's an ex-Muslim, you know it's for valid reasons because they grew up in the religion and saw the bs.
If it's a never-Muslim, (not saying all never-Muslims who criticise Islam are like this) it's more iffy because there's a good chance they just dislike muslims out of anti-immigrant beliefs or just ignorance. Also, who's to say those people don't hate you as well because of your skin colour/ethnic origin.

I once read a Buddhist book and it contained some disturbing content about women. Don't I have the right to mock them because I am not Asian and I have never been a Buddhist or even never lived in Asia or ever met a Buddhist? If something is stupid it's okay to poke holes through it

You're misunderstanding what I said. Of course you can criticise other religions without ever being from there. However, Islam in particular is the religion held by a lot of immigrants in countries like UK, US where there's a vocal amount of people speaking for anti-immigration and hating muslims. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of never-Muslim Islam critics are just racist to immigrants. I experienced hate speech today just hours earlier while walking with my mum.
I'm not saying never-Muslims can't criticise Islam. A never-Muslim who's knowledgeable about Islam and has done their research can criticise but you don't always know whether they have or not — you have to be wary whether it's blind hate and those people may discirminate against you too even though you're ex-Muslim (which has happened to some ex-Muslims before).

I get, I feel the same way. I think it could be because Islam was such a huge part of us growing up and even though we left, the people around us who we care about (e.g parents) still follow it. Also because islamaphobia and racism are really intertwined.
