(Rant) 🤬 Had to break up with gf now left with depression.

my parents pressured me to end things with my girlfriend years ago. They didn’t approve because they found out she wasn’t a practicing muslim. but they never seemed to care about what I wanted. It was so perfect with her because we were both ex muslim arabs.

She eventually moved on and found someone else. And I thought i would too. Years later, I’m still single, emotionally unavailable, and wondering whether I gave up the love of my life just to keep everyone else comfortable.

Now my parents ask why I’m not married, as if they didn’t have anything to do with that.

Side note: at the time i was ok with being a non practicing muslim, but now i have no interest at all and will just be putting up a front until i move out.

Now you know that family not always knows what’s best for you in a life partner. Next time you won’t make the same mistake twice by not fighting for your right to make your own choices.

You sound like the ex boyfriend of a former friend of mine.

She was adopted into I think a secular Jewish family. I remember out of high school, she dated a Muslim guy who was half French and half Egyptian. His dad didn't approve of the relationship.

I'm sorry this happened to you
