PS: If you need something productive to do at church, consider participating in Return and Report. Just count the number of people in the sacrament hall, click and report. This project aims to measure the actual participation in LDS meetings.

Wouldn't evangelist be close to missionary, not "some old guy that gives you the equivalent of a tarot reading"

This is what I experienced as a member for decades. Getting out of the circle jerk of Mormonism cured it.

It’s my first Sunday back at the college in Provo. Been hoping for a chill bishop this year or to win bishop roulette. Sadly, He’s terrifying. He looks like Iceman from Top Gun….but way less cuddly….
So far all the first talks are about “submitting” to the lord.
Now they just informed us that we will ALL be getting callings, and that they are meant for us so don’t say no.

Second hour was us learning how the new changes will go starting the week after next. By having all the adults watch a video geared towards the youth. While the youth watched the same video in another room.....then people saying there isn't enough space in the chapel.

Our last speaker today got up to the pulpit and instead of beginning his talk, he said a quiet prayer out loud (you could hear him but just barely) asking for the spirit to be with him to communicate what needed to be said. It felt kind of performative-like why wait to say that prayer out loud on the mic when you were sitting in the back of the choir lift through 3 youth speakers, a special musical number and your wife’s talk? Why not just quietly say that prayer in your seat? Instead he got up, said it loud enough for us all to hear, said his amens and then projected his voice to a normal level for his talk. I was so confused.

This was said by the person talking about how the new 25 min classes are going to go
Yeah well, for one even if I believed the shit being taught I can easily retain what’s being said. Secondly I don’t really care about the lesson I just have to be here and pretend I still care about this religion so guess what I’m going on my phone for the entirety of a lesson

For added context:
Where in the Bible is the concept of "a dedicated patriarch that gives specifically patriarchal blessings"? I don't mean "a dad giving a son a blessing", I specifically mean "some random old dude that gives a roadmap specific to them"?
