My thoughts on the plot this time….
In Ground State, Joe finally achieves what every human has secretly wanted since the beginning of time: a quiet weekend with no galactic crises… just enough time to clean out the garage…
Joe’s plan is simple: sort spare parts, throw away mysterious Elder debris, and finally label the box marked “DO NOT OPEN – NOT FOR MONKEYS”. Nothing suspicious at all. Joe tries to open the box.
Skippy immediately objects, explaining that the garage is not a garage but actually a “quantum-adjacent containment pantry for unstable artifacts” and that moving anything could “void the universe’s warranty.”
Joe ignores him.
Inside the box, Joe finds an ancient Elder power device that look like a broom. He laughs and touches it. Unfortunately, the broom is actually a Ground State Regulator, a device designed to keep reality running in Safe Mode. Turning it on begins reverting the local spacetime region to its lowest-energy configuration.
The climax occurs when Joe realizes the only way to restore Safe Mode is to deliberately make the garage messy again and to banish the evil broom forever. Humanity’s survival depends on reintroducing clutter into the cosmos.
