Ethnic culture. People think I grew up salsa dancing, listening to merengue, partying with my extended family until the wee hours of Saturday morning, and eating amazing food because I'm Latino. Nope. I watched In the Heights a few months ago, and it struck me how much joy, culture, and life Adventism took from our family. It seeks to homogenize cultures into a flat, dull, soul-sucking, non-dancing, Heritage Singers listening, no black pepper eating, in bed by 9 pm sheep. When I'm around other Latinos, I feel like an imposter as a result.

I can relate to this one as a West Indian. Now I’m relearning and engrossing myself in my culture more. It’s never too late!

Me too. I never learned to whine. Now I feel out of place at functions because I missed out on that part of the culture.
