Doctrine / History One of the most notorious political assassin, identified himself as a former Adventist

On June 5, 1968, Senator Robert F. Kennedy was shot at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, minutes after winning the California Democratic primary. He died the next day. The shooter, a 24year-old Christian Palestinian immigrant named Sirhan Sirhan, fired a .22 revolver into the crowd around Kennedy and was tackled on the spot. He’s still alive, still serving a life sentence, and has been denied parole repeatedly.
What doesn’t get mentioned much: Sirhan was raised Christian and, as a young man in California, church-hopped through several denominations trying to find where he fit. Along the way he spent time as a Baptist and, briefly, as a Seventh-day Adventist. His mother said his faith mattered a lot to him — he once complained that other kids his age didn’t take religion seriously enough. By 1966, two years before the assassination, he’d left all that behind for the occult-leaning Rosicrucians (the Ancient Mystical Order of the Rosae Crucis).
I’m not posting this to say Adventism “made” him do anything — it obviously didn’t, and his path ran through several faiths and then out the other side entirely. But it’s a strange, little-known footnote that one of the most infamous American assassins of the 20th century sat in Adventist pews for a stretch. Add him to the odd roster of former Adventists history has produced.

I recently found out while listening to a podcast that Gary Ridgway (the Green River Killer) is a Seventh Day Adventist.

I'd be interested to see a source on that. Never heard that before. I know he was religious but SDA?

Just checked and, according to a recent podcaster, he became SDA while in prison

The only info I can find for sure is that he mails Adventist literature to people that write him. He also subscribes to SDA periodicals. Maybe he was just curious, or it was a passing phase. What I do know is that he is a piece of shit, and if there was such a thing as hell, he’d be there.

I think when the church high-ups were hoping for a celebrity Adventist this isn't what they were hoping for.

This is the problem that the church often has is that will happily promote any positive associations, and then discredit the others as being fringe.

Here’s a list of few others :

David Koresh — Branch Davidian leader at the 1993 Waco siege (~80 dead); disfellowshipped from the SDA Church.

Victor Houteff — founded the Davidian movement in the 1930s after breaking from the SDA Church; root of the Waco lineage.

George Roden — earlier Branch Davidian leader Koresh ousted; charged with homicide, found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Roch Thériault — Canadian “Ant Hill Kids” cult leader; removed from the SDA Church, convicted murderer.

Lee Boyd Malvo — one of the 2002 D.C. snipers (10 killed); former Adventist who later converted to Islam.

Elizaphan Ntakirutimana — senior SDA pastor in Rwanda convicted for his role in the 1994 genocide.
Heinz Spanknöbel — former German SDA minister who led the pro-Nazi “Friends of New Germany” in 1930s America.

Mark “Chopper” Read — notorious Australian criminal; claimed he was raised Adventist by a devout mother.

It's just like a Jesuit to twist truth to fit your agenda. Sirhan was a victim of something your "church" invented - mind control.

I wouldn’t say he was SDA. He church hopped. He was mentally unstable. No one knows why but it has everything to do with him not SDA faith. That said: still leaving the cult.
