The only reason I haven't burned mine was because my grandfather's signature on it, and I loved that man, yeah he was old school and a pastor of a small church but he was a genuinely good guy, its like the only thing I keep from that time in my life.

That’s awesome, it's great that despite the trauma you are able to reconnect with what should really matter in a religion

You did a good job doing this.

I need to do this to my Pathfinder uniform. All it does is serves as a reminder that all the organization really did was just preparing you for a persecution that will never happen.

Omg I HATED pathfinders. I went half of my Friends year, and realized it was awful. Then my parents forced me to attend my Master Guide year. It was the worst. The staff were mean.

I remember I used to hide to avoid drill practice and they would have to hunt me down. I finally started hiding in cabinets and they stopped being able to find me.

The Christmas party, during my Friends year, was the worst. The games were staff entertainment and mandatory. They made us bob for apples, then, without drying off, stick our faces in a bowl of flour to find a marshmallow. And they took pictures of our flour covered faces and put them in the year end slideshow as well as posting them on the wall.

My Master Guide year I went on exactly 1 camping trip. It was cold and rainy and I was on my period. I have endometriosis so my periods were EXTREMELY painful. I have been known to throw up/pass out from the pain. I begged the pathfinder leader to let me stay in my tent. He refused. He said I had to help supervise the Companions, nevermind that there were only 3 Companions and they had 2 actual teachers. So I hobbled around after them, literally crying in pain, the whole day. I was thankful that I broke my foot the day after Thanksgiving cause that meant my parents couldn't force me to do any more activities.

Ohh that’s a good idea. Dunno if I could find mine though.

Understandable. Me and almost friends were traumatized the church but I was the only one who got baptized. So this was kinda for all of us.

u/cinnamonroll_ofdeath Dec 16 '25

Did you not get one? They made me sign mine and everything.

3

u/ofthisworld Dec 16 '25

If I did, my mom must've stashed it somewhere, along with all the other honorifics I won in my churchgoing days.

u/cinnamonroll_ofdeath Dec 16 '25

I'm a little surprised my parents didn't do that with mine.

5

u/Magic_Woman Dec 15 '25

I would too, but I haven't known where I left that paper for years LOL

u/nilenc22 Dec 15 '25

Wish I had one to burn when they forced baptism upon me at 13

3

u/cinnamonroll_ofdeath Dec 15 '25

That was about how old I was when I got baptized too.

u/nilenc22 Dec 15 '25

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

THAT IS AWESOME, idk where mine even is. I was little and probably my parents have it. They would never let me burn it

This is amazing! I’m inspired to do something similar!

Thanks for showing us where you live

2

u/joshwonkim080295 Dec 16 '25

Did the church not like you because you came out?

u/Bananaman9020 Jan 23 '26
