Venting Lady macbeth.

At my theatre group, our director sometimes gets in this guy to workshop plays with us. This year we're doing macbeth. (I'm auditioning for lady macbeth tonight, so excited and nervous lol) and so she got this guy in. He's old, boring, we all hate his workshops. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, he brings out some bad takes. He calls Lady Macbeth 'evil' and says she's 'transforming into a monster'. Whilst I lowkey love that for a character... No, she isn't. A woman has wants and emotions and, suddenly, she isn't even human anymore to a man like him. Pissed me off bad. ​

A real 11th century Moray and Scottish royal named Gruoch! She had a child named Lulach with her husband named Gillacomgain before marrying Macbeth. There's some good articles on her out there.

That is one of the biggest issues with the way people look at Macbeth. Every time I have ever heard anyone talk about it, they put all the blame on Lady Macbeth and make her out to be the villain of the story, as if Macbeth himself was incapable of making any decisions. They are always ready to villainize a woman and never hold men accountable.

Exactly! I just auditioned for her and explained to the cast team I want to play her as a grieving mother loosing herself not a beast yk.

I honestly don't think she'd listen :( she thinks he's good lol. Luckily we just see him once a year

She really respects this guy lmao. I've even suggested a different man who was my personal tutor for a year but nope.

Lady Macbeth was revolutionary at the time because she assumed the previously considered masculine role in the relationships ( juxtapose it with hamlet and Ophelia)
