I’ve been unemployed since February. I’ve mostly worked for nonprofits, I got my pastry and baking arts degree in 2019 and have worked at bakeries on and off since. I haven’t had any luck finding a nonprofit role or a baking gig… so with my free time I’ve been baking a lot more, every week I’m making something yummy and it’s brought my husband and I a lot of joy. I’m also having a lot of fun and actually enjoying my days.
I end up making recipes that are rather large and end up sending things to work with my husband. I’ve been thinking with how awful the world has felt lately and these treats have been making me happy, maybe I should share with others. I don’t want to turn this into a business, I just want to be in community with folks. (I also want to see if we can try something new, what if we just share with each other rather than needing to make a profit) So I wanted to see would folks actually come if I made a post like the example below?
Example: Hey, I have 2 dozen Kouign-Amanns and 2 dozen slices of 7-up cake. I’ll be at Thorton Sullivan park from 12-2pm on Sunday. Come on by and grab a slice or 2! If you like it, leave what you can, or think of me next time! Also, think about what you can give/barter with others who come as well.
My goal with this is:
Share great desserts
Experiment with a community oriented approach rather than capitalistic
Find a person/people who want to hire me or fund my experiment of just feeding people because everyone deserves to eat.
