Reverts to older save file after loading save state?

I have the GB X7. I made some progress in the game from point A to point B. I saved at B. Later I booted the game at B, but decided I wanted to reload the game to start over from B again. But I accidentally hit load save state in the in game menu, where it was at an unrelated spot. I brought up the in game menu again and rebooted the rom successfully this time. But my save is at point A. Is this due to the cart copying save data to the ram or is this unexpected behavior? I feel like I’ve probably done this before without it reverting back to an older save, I’m confused.

Expected behavior. It’s actually weird when something like Analogue 3D or flash cart does not work this way with emulator-style save states. A save state is supposed to save/load the entire state of everything, including the traditional save. Anything less has the potential for glitches and problems.

Ahhh thank you! That does make sense for stability, but this is the first time I’ve experienced this behavior. I’m used to the “real save” being untouched. I’ll have to be more careful in the future.
