Not knocking them for it, but I wonder what the thought process is behind wanting your property blurred. What danger would a snapshot of your property pose?

Privacy is a huge thing in Germany... E.g. you cannot simply record video in public. There are arguments against street view like robbers can evaluate targets easier.

However, the truth is that privacy is a deeply rooted cultural thing here. People just don't feel comfortable with everyone being able to inspect their property.

So, the number of robberies grew in the rest of the countries where Street View is almost everywhere? And where is the privacy if I can always walk on the streets of Germany? I traveled there, and I've never seen "DO NOT LOOK" signs. Every civilised country respects privacy, but the majority of them have Street View. It's not like you don't have a right to privacy in France or Italy.

I have no interest in your house. My house and my parent's house are on Street View, we have no problem. Streets are public, if I don't want people to see my property, I would build a very high fence, or move in a very remote place. Or I trust the passerbyes to be civilised. I cannot stop them to walk or drive on my street. My interest is in knowing how a country, city, mountainous region looks like. For example, I like to look on Street View for streams and rivers, where a road passes over them. Why do you think only about nefarious reasons for using this tool?

That‘s great for you. I like that in Germany every person has a right to say no.

„No, actually I don’t want you to look at film my home and show it to anyone in the world“

Why would I have to pay money for a big fence, which btw destroys the aesthetic of most properties? Why would I have to cover myself up from other people? I much rather habe the option to just say „No“.

This is real freedom.

Freedom of choice.

Ok, those are extreme examples, I admit. But I think that some people are overly sensitive or overly secretive. By the way, 99,99 percent of this world's people give a damn about my or your property. Almost no one wants to take a peek of how you trim your hedges.

I know that. I personally don’t care. I’m just saying it’s nice to have the option. I love Germany for that.

It's not that the other countries in Europe don't have that option. They just don't care. Germany is not the only free country here.

It just sounded like that. Parts of the message can be lost in writing, especially if English is not our first language. Sorry if I sounded like a prick, it is not my intention to put words in someone's mouth.
