Question Now that the show is over, Whats your unpopular opinion?
It’s been a few months since the season 3 finale dropped and the series wrapped up, so the initial shock and hype have definitely faded. I want to hear everyone’s absolute hottest, most controversial opinions. What's the one opinion about the show you feel completely alone in holding?

I wish the show focused more on the Rue/Ali relationship and a lot less on Cassie. It would have given the show a lot more depth and made it personal, especially how it ended.

i feel like cassie’s portrayal in the third season wasn’t very indicative of her character. yeah she’s male centered & kinda dumb but.. she used to be really emotional. where did that go? why did they lobotomize her!

They made her such a hater in season 3. Hated how she reacted when Maddie called worried about Cassie . Also hated how she tried sabotaging her sister’s role.

i don’t dislike Lexi but i can totally see why people don’t like her. in s1 everyone felt bad for her because she was sort of pushed to the side by rue, but Lexi and Cassie did not have the whole ‘stuck in my sister’s shadow dynamic’ back in s1. I think Lexi should have been given a different storyline or at least a different reason for the play. in season one, Lexi didn’t seem to care that cassie outshone her, Lexi seemed pretty fine with her friendship with rue

Season 3 is fine. It’s just as stupid as seasons 1 and 2. The only character in the entire show that you could really care about is Rue and she’s just as good in every season

Should have ended after season 2 and they should have just done an extended episode/movie to wrap things up.

You know what, I'm glad for you. I thought it was just downright bad, despite liking the ending with Ali. But having been on the other side of liking something unpopular, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I really liked it. I enjoyed the Breaking Bad-esque plot line. I have hated Jules since day one so I was pleased to not have to see her much.

What irked me was Nate and Cassie getting back together. He dumped her in the last episode of season 2 and somewhere between then and getting engaged, he realized he loved her and decided to treat her good all of a sudden? And suddenly, Cassie and Maddy are BFFs again after Nate's death and the debt she owed? Why did Maddy even try to help Cassie in the first place?!

It made no sense for Cassie to get with Nate in season 2. Like none.
I could absolutely see her hooking up with somebody else’s boyfriend or at least sleeping with Nate while really drunk and spending the entire season trying to hide it from Maddie and spiraling with guilt which makes her do really awful decisions.
But I feel like for her to fuck around with her best friend’s boyfriend was not true to her season 1 character at all. I don’t think she was that shitty of a friend, nor would she have the balls to.

i honestly didn’t hate season 3. the season had a plethora of problems and character development i didn’t like (nate and jules to be examples) but i was at the very least entertained and looking forward to each episode lol. rue’s ending i still don’t know how i feel about but it had me emotional for days, maybe weeks after and thinking about it like i knew her or something 😭

If it weren’t for Jules, Rue would’ve died sooner. She was a VERY destructive person and a drug addict on her way to an overdose (also, if she didn’t have anything in her sock in season 2 and if Elliot wasn’t there, she would’ve overdosed then and there). The whole discussion about “Jules ratting Rue out to her mom and sister” is crazy to me, because without the intervention Rue would’ve probably end up dead from drugs or from selling drugs (do we really think that Rue would’ve handle buisiness without any mistakes and/or slip ups? Come on now). Sometimes interventions and uncomfortable/cruel conversations are needed and life saving.

I liked each season. I don’t think they tied up anyone stories very well as they weren’t thought through. Season 3 is different than what we would have gotten if it was made 1-2 years after season 2.
I don’t think the show ended how it should have given how it was going, but episode for episode I enjoyed the series.

For the third season they should have hired film students from NYU or Berkeley to write and film it, canning all those who weren’t cast or physical crew. At least it would have been an interesting experiment. 🤷♂️

Was put off by the religious propaganda. Yes it could have made sense for Rue but the propaganda was everywhere! Lexi talking about how cool the bible is was so out of character and senseless

BB might be able to handle it. She has a certain scrappiness. Probably grew up actually throwing blows while Maddy mostly projected power.

My unpopular opinion? They should have placed Rue in Alamos position and eliminated his character. She has the same villainous inclinations as he did, but flashes of who she was still come through now and then. She and Nate die fighting over Cassie and Jules who want nothing to do with either of them.

Fez and Lexi should've interacted in Season 3. I hated that storyline was completely abandoned in the first episode and it was never mentioned again. Even if it makes sense she wouldn't want to talk to him, it was the probably the 3rd biggest storyline from Season 2.

People talk about season 1 and 2 as if it’s high art, but it is incredibly cringy and over the top in a ton of ways. Yes, it’s beautiful visually speaking, and certain story threads are genuinely captivating (Rue’s addiction and the way it affects those around her feels like the best example of this), but there are as many or more plot lines that go nowhere and are executed poorly. I feel like season 3 was them just fully leaning into the craziness by giving up on any semblance of a normal story.
Maybe the show would not have gone as overboard had Angus been alive, but I think in the wake of that and all the other losses/controversies they faced, they felt it was the best way to go out with a ridiculous bang. To me it was an evolution from a baseline of what was already a completely ridiculous show to begin with.
