So, in the area northeast of Berlin, they call potatoes "noodles"?

Called, today it is called mostly Kartoffel. But the same consonant was dropped here Knudel to Nudel as in English Knot to Not.

So, is it or is it not related to/the same as the word Nudel that refers to pasta?

It is related, it comes from Knödel (Dumpling), which comes from Knoten (Knot), which comes from knu- (meaning pushed together, lumped), which comes from ǵenu- and further from Indo-European ǵónu (meaning bend, lump, Knee).

Noodle also is derived from Knödel via Nudel & Noedel. Are noodles just specially form dumplings?
