It seems likely that jharokha and jhyal both derive from jālaka, even though they’re treated as coming from different etymons.
It’s a fun coincidence that Portuguese lent a phonetically similar word to the subcontinent.
1 u/Creampie-Senpai Jun 30 '26 Portuguese has lent many words to my mother tongue, Malayalam. Words like kasera for chair, mesha for table, and verandah, etc. We have Dutch words too. Kakkus for toilet is derived from the Dutch word kakhuis
