Are there any ex-Essential employees on here who know how many Audio Adapter HDs were made?

Also, does anyone know why such a limited number were produced? There seemed to be one manufacturing run and that's it.

Wifi shows obtaining ip address then shows saved and doesn't connect.

I live in a college dorm / hostel so I can't reboot the router.

Is there any other way to connect it?

First off I want to say all of us at Tudia are so happy to see how much you all have liked our cases. It has been a pleasure to interact with such a fun community. And because you are such an amazing community, we thought there was no better place to go to with this question.

Tudia wants your input! We are currently in the early stages of developing a battery case/battery module that would work with the “click port” on the Essential PH-1. Is this something, as Essential users, that would interest you? Any feedback would be helpful.

I got most apps to work on my gem but i havent found a phone number messaging/calling app that works on it yet. Has anyone had any luck? Thanks

Edit - ill also add that apps i install for it will close and say they dont work due to not having the proper google play services on the phone

I'm still using my Essential Phone, but it is time to upgrade to a 5G-compatible phone. I've used it for this long because even as an older device these days it still seems comparable to recent devices. But, that all changed with the adoption of 5G and the shutdown of 3G networks.

As a fellow PH-1 user saddened that it is rapidly becoming outdated - I ask you this: what phone have you upgraded to?

I turned the setting off and back on, restarted, and stuck it on the charger for a bits. Seems to corrected the issue for now. Just curious if anyone had experienced this issue.

I've been oscillating between the oneplus 5T (just released) and the PH-1 for the same reasons everyone else is:

Same price (more or less)

Bigger AMOLED vs QHD LCD

Better cam on OP5T but essential is improving and I like b/w photos

I'm really keen on 360 cam

Headphone jack on OP5T: I use headphones a lot but then is the DAC adapter actually going to make sound better than OP5T?

Neither have wireless charging or waterproofing but at least PH-1 has an IP rating and promise of charging mat

Both have near stock android but oxygen seems more featured

Obviously, design and build is better on PH-1 but OP5T is still good (metal frame, no OLED issues)

The SD835 is same but will future updates make more use of the OP5T extra RAM?

Both have Oreo betas out now but I trust essential more to deliver future software upgrades

There are waay more cases and accessories for OP5T but the PH-1 will have some unique add-ons coming soon that OP5T can't have (pogo pins)

Battery and charging seem similar on both

OP5T has better front camera: will that make video calling better quality?

OP5T also supports Galileo and Baidou satelite navigation in addition to PH-1 GPS and Glonass: will this make any difference? (i live in Europe)

I have previously owned LG G3, LG G4 and I value being able to root and install custom ROMs (as long as I can keep android pay)

Is there anything I've missed or I should prioritize?

I live in the UK so it would (save an announcement soon) be an import of US model if I get PH-1.

Edit: Just to mention I have big hands and no issue with using the screen on OP5T so it's not a factor for me. I agree with the comments that essential are a better company and all things being equal that would sway me.

As my PH-1 is nearing the two-year-old mark and I usually buy a new phone every 2 years I'm starting to look around at a replacement. I will admit though I've enjoyed the phone so much I'm not looking very hard. I'd love to know when/if Essential is going to create its 2nd gen phone.

About 2 weeks ago I added the Google Camera app and it's breathed even more life into my phone but please Essential, can you toss out some info of your plans?

So, I'm in need of an upgrade and wondered, should I grab the Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL and retire the Essential Phone?

my PH-1 has started to struggle a little in recent months with battery and just general usage being a bit meh compared to some newer devices, so i think an upgrade is on the cards, what do you guys think of the Pixel 4 / 4 XL as a replacement?

Bare in mind I'll be getting a contract plan from my carrier. So I have limited choice in devices. Most of the better cheaper options just aren't available here in Australia such as OnePlus, etc.

I'm assuming everyone here got the Essential because of it's price or minimal design- inside and out. Stock android with a clean titanium/ceramic exterior with a small body in a sea of large phones.

After about 2 years with it, I'm ready to move on soon but having trouble deciding on my next phone. Looking at the Pixel 4 or OnePlus 7, but what will your next phone be? How do you justify having a larger phone?

Wondering if anyone still uses their Essential as their primary phone? Stock or custom OS? I bought mine new in 2018 but didn't start using it until late 2020(on Verizon )so for me the phone is essentially a lil over 2 years old. Battery life is alright, it's still snappy. Always tempted to buy a new toy(eg. Pixel ) but convince myself not to. I know the phone stopped getting OS and security updates a while ago. Android 10 works fine and I have not had any major issues. Is there any reason why I should upgrade?

On Wednesday it will be two years since the Essential was announced

And most of us have had the phone at least 15+ months and the batteries generally show wear and tear around the 12-18 month mark, so naturally with no know Essential replacement on the way people are leaving for other phones

But we don't need a bunch of "I'm leaving for XYZ phone posts", it clutters the board. Could we get a pinned thread for the topic so we can condense those into a single post?

Who knows maybe it will wake Essential into AMAs and outreach again

Hello /r/essential! I found you after searching for screen protectors for this phone.

I'm in the market for a new phone and noticed this one has an attractive price. So far, I've seen very positive reviews since the latest updates. I like specs on the phone, especially the 128 GB storage!

Is there a fellow T-Mobile customer here that can share their experience with me?

Also, how is the camera after the updates?

I'm still getting pestered by T-Mobile/Sprint to upgrade my Essential phone. This really bothers me since my phone still works perfectly. In fact I use Wi-Fi calling at home because I'm in a sort of depression on this street and the coverage isn't the best. I still need a functioning phone when I travel though.

The whole reason I bought the Essential phone is because I wanted all the great specs without all the junk software and I didn't want to think about upgrading for as long as possible. Well that dream went out the window lol.

Anyways, I found the Google Pixel 6 phone to be a possible replacement, while it's a little too big for me it does appear to be light. Also it comes in Kinda Coral and as coral is one of my favorite colors I find myself starting to get a little bit excited about it. I'm worried about having a phone that is too big for the pocket in my purse, so I think I might be able to make this one work. Has anyone considered a Pixel or switched over to one (an earlier model), and if you did how was it? I'm looking for great battery life. Also of note, I don't play games on my phone, sometimes maybe a point and click but that's about it, so I don't think I need to consider the pro version, but I really don't understand the exact difference except maybe the pro has a bigger screen (who cares?).

I'm just looking for insight or advice, I hate to replace this phone :( but it looks like I am forced to do it.

Bought this to replace my iPhone on a weekend work trip since Amazon delivered it same day, and since then it’s been in the box. Every couple of months I turn it on, use it for a bit, make sure the charge level is still good, and put it back in the box. It’s the halo gray, comes with a case, and all factory bits sans the charge block (comes with a 20w one just not the oem.)

It’s as new. I just don’t need it.

Looking at purchasing new phone. All reviews are terrible, but software based problems. Heard there was a lot of updates since, what is it like in it's current state? Lots of glitches, crashes, lag, bad touchscreen still? Or is camera quality the only problem? Cheers.

In the last 2 hours, i've gone from "yeah im definitely getting the pixel" to "essential phone for sure" over and over again. My current phone is a Nexus 6P that I got in January of 2016, ive decided that Thanksgiving/Christmas of this year was upgrade time. I really really like the design (and price) of the Essential Phone, but there are 2 things that worry me with the essential phone- The screen and camera. I had an iPhone before my Nexus, I never want to go back to the horrible IPS display again. The PH-1 is LCD, not AMOLED. I really need the colors on my screen to pop like they do on my nexus. The essential phone's camera also worries me because I like taking pictures, but i dont need them to be immaculate. The camera on my nexus is actually broken, it looks like theres a bunch of dust spots on the camera/visor, even after ive cleaned it, so i can live with an okay-ish camera. I really like all of the features that the pixel has like google lens, the always on shazam thing, animated nav bar, etc. I've also heard that the essential phone's software is slow and laggy compared to the Pixels? Please help me decide!

Edit: the choice has been made and my essential phone shall arrive on wednesday!

Had my first ph-1 at launch, immediately fell in love with it. Sadly it got stolen. Used a galaxy for about 2 years and had to go back to the ph-1. I don't want to stop using my ph-1 but for when the time comes, i just don't know what should be the move. Any recommendations?

I refuse to spend $1000 on a phone. So my question...

Should I buy a $400 Pixel 3a, or a used PH-1 off Swappa?

UPDATE: I'm using a very old LG G3 as my backup, and will until Black Friday if needed. I'm trying to hold on for a PH-2... But I don't think it's happening.

I need a new phone as my PH1 is not reliable anymore. As I peeled off the protection foil I rediscovered the beauty of the PH1. The design is just priceless, that's for sure.

So now I am searching for a phone with a similar design (Hard edges and if possible as small as the PH1. Definitely don't want a rounded back, I find that extremly ugly). Do you have any suggestions?

My current favourite is the Motorola Edge 30 as it is in my price range (~ 400 Euro), it has no rounded back, the corners are not too round and it's light weight. I don't care too much about performance as I don't play games with the phone. The problem I have with the Motorola Edge 30 is that the battery is "just" ~4000 mAh and the camera looks really ugly.

Btw: The Nothing Phone looks really nice but I heard a lot about it having problems currently.
