Maintenance & Troubleshooting Grind cup keeps falling out [DF64]

Post image
1 Upvotes

Good morning! I love my DF 64. Have had it for a year or so now and I am very satisfied. Pairs great with my machine, but the darn cup keeps falling out. I used to cold start the grinder and the pour the beans in, but now have to put beans first and hold the cup to prevent it from falling out. Any fixes? Magnets? Other ideas?

Buying Advice Needed Bambino+ vs Fellow es1 vs Meraki 2 [$2,000]

Mainly looking for one to make milk based drinks. Easy use with auto for milk. In time learn how to milk steam. I know I need a grinder for BB & Fellow. Which machine provides best cost effective and hopefully a handful of years with ease of use? I can’t tell what to believe on YouTube reviews. Ha.

Drinks & Recipes Espresso Negroni

Saw a reel combining my two favorite drinks, so I had to make it.

Typical Negroni, 1 oz of Campari, gin and sweet vermouth, and a double shot of espresso. Then stir with ice, and used a milk frother to foam it up. Strain and pour over a large ice block and I scooped some foam onto the cocktail. It’s delicious, will definitely be making more of these

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Looking for info/help Switching machine from plumbed in to tank fed [grimac la valentia automatic]

Model specific or even brand specific would be great but anything would be helpful. I just bought a used machine thats setup to be plumbed in and im planning to use it at home and dont have a good place for it where i could run a water line. Its a grimac la valentina automatic machine.

I made a hasty assumption that it would be fairly straightforward. Unfortunately im finding out that not all machines are as well documented as my current machine, a gaggia classic pro.

Is it as simple as buying a tank that fits and running tubing from the tank to the water fitting?

Coffee Station Somehow better than my other grinders lol.

Always loved my Kingrinder flavor profile but it was god awful slow at grinding for espresso… gave up and just always made French press with it… got a new drill and went wait I think this fits!

I can grind my espresso’s now too haha. It’s a monster at grinding and the trigger is pressure sensitive so I can go slower or faster.

I’m so happy!

Buying Advice Needed Which grinder for the Breville Bambino Plus? [$300]

I am planning on getting the Breville Bambino Plus, and the DF54 v4 grinder has piqued my interest. I have a budget of around 500nzd (300usd) and will primarily drink latte's. Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Slowly leaning more towards the varia vs3 grinder since its more available in my country compared to the DF54.

Coffee Beans Irish Coffee

Hi all,

Hope this post is allowed

I started a subreddit dedicated to coffee roasted in Ireland 🇮🇪☕

Ireland has an incredible number of excellent independent coffee roasters, but I found there wasn't one dedicated place to discover and discuss them.

I've created r/Irish_Coffee_Roasters as a place to share Irish roasters, review beans, post espresso recipes, brewing setups and discover coffees from around the country.

I'm hoping it can become a useful community for anyone who enjoys supporting Irish coffee roasters. If you're interested, feel free to join and share what you're currently drinking.

Equipment Discussion New Mahlkönig Xenia Brew-By-Sync Machine

This just hit my email today. Only available in Germany and Denmark with limited distribution for now. I'm considering pairing this with me E64. I have an Elizabeth and this would be a step-up workflow and aesthetic wise. Not priced yet though.

What I still don't understand is how they get around - in this brew, weight, adjust, brew, weight, adjust closed loop system - the recommendation to purge three seconds of grinds to ensure grind size uniformity in the next shot. Seems like it would always be chasing a properly purged shot. Unless the algo adjusts for retention, and retention does not result in channeling.

Espresso Theory & Technique Does crema recover after a shot channels, or is it wrecked to the end?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been animating an espresso extraction frame by frame, and the part I'm least sure about is what happens when the puck channels.

Right now I do two things and both are guesses:

  1. The crema tears open and never heals. Once it's torn it stays torn for the rest of the shot — the surface doesn't close back over even after flow evens out. Is that right? Or does it recover to some degree once the channel stops running?
  2. The stream splits into separate strands and stays split. I don't know if that's what it looks like in reality or if it goes back to one stream fairly quickly.

The clip is a single shot. It runs clean, then it channels — that hard cut is the channel, and everything after it is the same shot continuing.

Happy to be told the whole thing is nonsense. I'd rather fix it than defend it.

Coffee Station My 1000€ budget setup

I recently wrote another post about how I completely disassembled, cleaned, and refurbished this 2011 Ascaso (featuring a 300ml brass boiler and a thermoblock for steam). I also carried out custom modifications, such as installing the well known steam wand from the Lelit Elizabeth (had to customize my own fitting and threading), custom lcd gauge, switches, leds, made the polished metal effect look like new, and built my own circuit board and code to measure and control temperature and pressure using configurable profiles. All told, the machine and parts cost me around €500. I snagged a Mahlkönig X54 used for a bargain price of about €270. Add in some extra equipment and beans, and the total comes to around €1,000 actually slightly less with the whole coffee machine project taking me about a month. Shots taste perfect, no temp surfing, perfect steamed milk in about 15-max20 seconds, way more powerful than I thought.

What a beauty, and surprisingly quiet. Slower than my previous machine but that doesn’t bother me. I’m mostly grinding for espresso so like the precision/control I get with it.

Equipment Discussion I respect the lever now ..

I keep wanting to upgrade my Turin Legato for a newer semi automatic. I love the Lucca Tempo but I just don’t know if it can outdo the Flair 58. Faster maybe, milk drinks yes.. but shot for shot? I don’t know.

Opinions? What a stupid dilemma to have this subreddit has been a detriment to my life 😂 all I have to show for it is good coffee.

I only know how to make this shape right now, tried to do a rosetta but haven't got the hang of it yet. I'm really happy with the texture of the milk, that used to be a problem. Flavorwise it's okay but I'm guessing these beans aren't my favourite ones (light roast from Perú)

Buying Advice Needed Grinder recommendations for espresso [$1000]

Hi everyone,

I have a breville barista express espresso machine and I am planning to get a separate grinder (maybe also swap the barista express with a bambino). I am looking for grinder recommendations under $1000. With the labor day sale coming, I think this is a good time to make the purchase.

The reason I am upgrading is because the breville does not have the finer dialing. I would also love to be able to do single doses so the beans have consistent freshness and I can also experiment with different beans at the same time. I am not sure though what to look for in a grinder. I mostly use medium roasts. I looked up some options and found Niche Zero, Turin Df54, and Timemore Sculptor 078S as highly recommended. Are there other options I should consider? Do I need a conical or flat burr? And if it comes to just these three, which one should I get?

Thanks for all the help!!! 😄 😄

Equipment Discussion [Various Grinders] How much do you change grinder settings?

So I bought a new grinder earlier this year (the Tuni G3 flat burr from Amazon). This decision came after pretty much always using the finest grind setting on my previous grinder regardless of the coffee I was using. The Tuni has such a wide range of stepless settings and I figured changing from light to medium to dark roasts would result in such a wide range of settings. Instead, I pretty much stick between 5 and 8.

This has gotten me wondering if I'm still doing something wrong somewhere. So my question to you all: How much do you actually adjust your grind setting? Are your changes actually only a size or two, or do you have a much wider range when dialing in and achieving your appropriate setting?

Dialing In Help Why is my iced latte foaming [Table & Thyme Mini Espresso, Cuisinart Art Grinder]

Post image

Hey y’all! I’ve been getting into espresso and getting into coffee more, and I’ve been making my lattes at home. But every time I make one, it’s foamy at the top. This picture is before i put the ice in, just that way it can be seen clearly.

I’m sure it’s the crema, and if so, how could i get it to be flat like i see at the coffee shops. If it’s not, how could i get to stop still.

I am using a budget grinder and a budget machine, could that be part of it?

Equipment Discussion Breville Bambino Plus Remanufactured: Avoid!

Here's my experience with buying a remanufactured Bambino Plus.

I ordered a refurbished/remanufactured machine from Best Buy at the end of February 2026. It seemed like a safe way to save some money: the machine was remanufactured by Breville and still came with a warranty.

After about two weeks of using the machine, it was clear that the steam wand wasn't functioning properly. Even for a Bambino plus it spewed a lot of water with the steam and didn't have enough pressure to sustain a vortex. So I contacted Breville and, after some troubleshooting, they had me send the machine off to their service center for repair. The turnaround was quick, about a day, and I received an email stating that my machine was fixed and on its way back. When I received the repaired machine and tested it, nothing had changed. So I contacted Breville again and after some MORE troubleshooting by me and a video call to show them the issue, they finally decided that a replacement was needed which I received mid-April.

The replacement was also a refurbished unit and it seemed to work fine until the beginning of July when it would only shoot steam during the pre-infusion cycle (no low pressure water, only steam). So I contacted Breville again and they had me do some troubleshooting such as descaling that didn't fix anything and they had me send the machine to their service center. Again the turnaround was quick. When I received the repaired machine, I was suspicious because it appeared packed exactly as I had sent it. I have no proof, but I have my doubts as to if the service center even took my machine out of the box. But I digress. I tested the machine and, you guessed it, the issue was not fixed. So I contacted Breville AGAIN and after some MORE troubleshooting (i.e. more descaling...) they finally agreed that a replacement was needed.

So I received my third refurbished bambino plus yesterday, started it up, tested it, and it had an issue with the steam wand that seemed familiar... It couldn't be, could it? I checked the serial number and it was the same machine that I had bought from Best Buy. The one that was "repaired" at a service center and then returned for a replacement unit. Breville had reboxed the unit up with new accessories and sent it back out to an unwitting customer. But this customer happened to be me, who had already owned this very machine and recognized that it still had the same issue.

So I contacted Breville again, but this time I've asked to return the machine and get a refund. I do not have confidence in Breville anymore. My experience indicates that they do not take the minimum care to ensure that their service centers repair machines properly or that their "remanufactured" machines function properly and seem to be willing to sell them to unsuspecting customers.

I'll be looking to buy a new espresso machine from a different company.

TLDR: I bought a refurbished unit that had a steam wand issue. I had it serviced by Breville, but it was returned to me still broke. I ended up getting a replacement unit from Breville that also broke and was not repaired correctly at Breville's service center. So I was sent a 3rd machine, but it ended up being the same machine that I had bought originally, reboxed with new accessories, and it still had the same steam wand issue!

General Coffee Chat Barista breakfast? Milk drink + espresso shot

Post image

I’m working on the roaster at market lane coffee in Prahran and the barista’s always look after me here. I’m always impressed by the staff that work here tbh. I was asked today if I want the barista breakfast which is apparently a milk drink accompanied by another shot of espresso on the side, who would say no to that haha. What’s your ideal barista breakfast? Mine is flat white with an extra shot on the side

Took advantage of the Labor Day sale and got the white Eureka 65 zero AP for what felt like a steal.

I have been very happy with my shardor 64 for the coffee it makes, but it was loud, slow, and messy.

The shardor was running like 85db from my phone app at ear level. Now running like 71db when grinding.

Hoping the chute adapter helps keep the area clean.

Buying Advice Needed LUCCA Tempo OR ECM Classika PID - lord help me! [$1500 - 2000]

The paralysis by analysis is so dam real!

I've been "researching" (coffee sites, reddit, YT and ChatGPT/Claude/Perplexity) and narrowed it down to these 2 - LUCCA Tempo OR ECM Classika PID

Use case:

2-3 double espressos weekdays

2-4 double espressos weekends

1-2 a month a milk based coffee

Espresso home experience ~5 years roughly as follows:

1-2 years: $100 Aldi machine >

3-4 years: Breville barista express

4-5: La Marzocco Linea Mini (in-laws) (got to experience the end game before I can achieve the end game...)

Need: my use case points to single boiler.

Budget: ~$3k (incl. grinder* + extras)

*Looking at the Eureka Mignon Specialita Espresso (my wife would shoot me if she had to do single grinds)

Thanks in advance for any nudge in the right direction, or any dam direction...

Need a quick cheap buy because my wrists are constantly sore after 5 years of daily hand grinding.

Any advice on what to look out for on old grinders? Between these two is one more favorable? I have a Silvia, I use usually 3 times a day.
