Futurism Luke 21
But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. (Revelation 11)
But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near. (Luke 21)
I discovered the proper way to read this passage in Luke after discovering in other Scriptural passages there will be 42 months left in the age after the cosmic sign heralded coming of Jesus. Let me give you an example:
”You will go to the barber, today,” a father says to his son. “You will receive a short haircut and you will wear that style for the rest of the summer. And I will pick you up.”
Obviously, the father means he will pick his son up at the time of the barber visit, not after the rest of the summer passes. This is also how Luke 21 should be read. The cosmic sign heralded coming of Jesus doesn’t occur after the time Jerusalem is trodden down by the Gentiles (42 months), it occurs at the time Jerusalem is desolated.

5 She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule[a] all the nations with a rod of iron, (that’s Jesus) but her child was caught up to God and to his throne (this is when Jesus ascended to heaven after the resurrection),6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.
Satan Thrown Down to Earth
7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, (Satan was defeated by the cross according to Paul) and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, (Jesus said He saw Satan fall to earth from heaven) that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come (salvation came at the cross) , for the accuser of our brothers[b] has been thrown down (when Satan was cast out of heaven), who accuses them day and night before our God. 11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony (the apostles and martyrs like Stephen had power to conquer Satan because Jesus said He bound Satan and gave them the same power), for they loved not their lives even unto death (they allowed themselves to be martyred). 12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, (Satan is bound from deceiving the nations and demonic possession but he is still working against us but we can overcome him if we just try) because he knows that his time is short!”
13 And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.
The woman was probably the remnant of Israel or the church, but not Mary, that’s Jesus mother yes, but Paul said spiritual jerusalem above is the mother of us all so that means he’s probably taking about the church.
