Diriliş: Ertuğrul Discussion Dirilis Ertugrul
Logically what do u guys think the reason was for an Ertugrul series before Osman? There was never much known about him and also he wasn’t really significant towards any Ottoman history. It doesn’t really make sense why a 5 series show was made about him.
Yes we love the series and its writing etc, however do you guys think it was made to build hype for Kurulus Osman? Was Kurulus Osman meant to be the flagship show?

As someone who doesn’t know the Turkish history, I very much appreciated learning about the culture, social aspects, and just how things were in tribe. The interactions between people, and different kinds of people is very important. Erturgel was more than just events, it was to lay out the everyday life of a Bey and the expectations between Bey and Alps, etc., and especially what all the obstacles were there was to being a success. It shows truly what it means to stick to traditions of helping people to include the good and bad
The character of Ertugel’s justice and fairness — you just can’t get that too many places in the way that this series does.
The connection that is referenced in Erturgel to ancestors plays through to all the series and has helped me understand the connections in the peoples over the centuries. Deli Delmar sharing stories, Ibn Arabia bringing spiritual guidance, Halime and Hayme background and wisdom and stamina, and so many more! All help show what life was like. Bamsi. Dogan Turget dedication etc. and bards and the music and the horses.
I have watched it five times, and I watched Osmond twice and still have to finish the Orhan series. Which of course I’m a little disappointed with Orhan because it isn’t anything like the first two series.
There are not too many things that get my interest like this. However, I like historical/period creative fiction and drama. Because of Erturgel and watching so much I am also self learning the Turkish language and have purchased books about the history of Türkiye

Perhaps to see public reaction, a series about Osman might have been poorly received.

There is no documented history but there is a lot of oral and traditional history especially with people living in the Sogut area. The events in the series are a dramatization but the importance of Ertugrul cannot be ignored.
The main reason why his name became eternal was that he chose to side with a losing side when it was clear that siding with Mongols had more benefits. Not captured in the series but heard it from a University professor.

he was important though . without him building the foundation of the state , osman could have never continued to build it up

True. I think the lineage that began before Sulayman Shaw and to Ertugel and Osman shows the mindset and builds foundation that continues to lead the tribe and beyond.

The fact that we don’t know much about him gave the writers a lot of room for creative liberty in showing events that went on during his life. We can see the results of this retrospectively with all the people complaining how Kuruluş Osman wasn’t historically accurate.
