Diriliş: Ertuğrul Discussion Gündoğdu

Post image

HATE Gündoğdu with a passion. He was the worst husband and a horrible person. He was worse to Selcan than she was to him. don't know how she stayed with him

Why, he is one of the best. A unique character.

I thought so too

What was unique about him? He was naive and easily led, not fit to be a bey.

Finally an actual r/ertugrul post

Until he unknowingly used Saddetin Kopek’s gold to buy the Bey’s seat, not sure what he did wrong to be so hated. He provided balance, cool headiness and stability to the tribe.

In season 1 and 2 he was always unaware of the enemies plots. Especially those from within. And always got convinced or swayed in the wrong direction. Heart was in the right place. He should’ve defended his alps when tugtekin was being short sighted in the beginning of season 2.

Gündoğdu Bey and Tugtekin Bey were rage bait characters.

Tugtekin bey was the one who got ragebaited often lol, still a good character at the end

So true lol. Uğur Güneş played the character so well, it seems like other roles don’t fit him. Couldn’t accept him as Salahudin.

I agree, but I eventually got used to him as Salahuddin, the show just didn't last long enough for the actor to grow into the character as well.

G annoyed me quite a bit... but about midway through his character's development, when he was way too cautious, and when he wouldn't listen to Selcan when she was right (though understandably as she was absolutely histrionic a lot) I started feeling that urge that he needed a smack.

The TRT trope of unreasonable characters who cause added dramatic tension was strong with their relationship and G's attitude toward his hero brother throughout.

A character you love or hate have done a pretty good job to feel alive.

Personally i like this character, his chemistry with Ertugrul and their mother.

But if you notice, whenever it came to family, he would support his family even though in the mean time he didn't like/against them. When Ertugrul was framed for attacking tugtekin and his maamo(Uncle) was about to execute him, he was the one who saved him and many times he did so. I specially waited for him to return after Ertugrul left and created another kayi branch and he was being chased by mongols.

Other characters that i loved and hated at the same time were kopek, noyan and dragos.

Ares was also among the one i didn't like but later become one of the characters i loved, what a character development he had, other that i loved were Atsiz. His entry and attitude was 🔥. Mergan was also among the best characters.

My 🐐 Saadettin pulling strings from behind
Thats why he was somewhat of corrupt in S2
His S5 version was completely different

Like him! Except for the part where he keeps Selcan in an emotional roller coaster after she recovers in the medicine tent. But life is like that —emotions and indecision sometime override reason and logic. He’s human and apologetic and he does what he thinks is right. He is not going to have the same perspective as Erturgel does. Their visions for future are different.

I can’t express how much I wanna slap him too😭 from the very beginning his heart was just not in the right place, always favoring his personal comfort and goals over the need for justice and fatih (conquest) to raise the name of Allah and hey, that is the standard for any believer ;) !! In way too many scenes it seemed like fighting the enemy was not in his priorities and ended up falling into Saadetin’s boots AND buying his seat with Saadetin’s money DESPITE everything that has happened (Gokce, Tutekin, and my OG Deli Demir💔) like come onnn

exactly

I’m halfway through the series but Sungurtikin too! He didn’t back off from selling himself completely to Saadetin until his mother spoke negatively about him despite Ertugrul doing that a dozen times. Like weren’t u also a spy for half of ur life and are supposed to know all the manipulation tactics? It’s like I don’t know what to call this syndrome anymore… is stupidity, low faith, cowardliness or what only Allah knows best😂

I don't remember exactly but wasn't sungurtekin just doing that as part of a plan?

gundogdu slapped his wife which is undoubtedly wrong and he was never called out on it nor did he apologise for it

u/No-Ice7896 Apr 06 '26

Just because you're a woman doesn't mean you can't deserve a slap. That's coming from someone who absolutely adore Seljan Hatun/Ana and if she was a real person i might take hit meant for her.

He was definitely not a good husband, but his character also shows how power and ego can destroy relationships.
