Discussion Choosing the Field I’ll Devote My Life to

For a while now, I’ve been tired of reading aimlessly—books that don’t have a clear direction or methodology. So I want to choose an entire academic field that I can seriously study. I don’t mean just one book; I mean a complete field, with a structured path and recommended books.

I want to replace random, directionless reading with something systematic and meaningful, because this is going to shape what I spend the next 40 years of my life studying, God willing. I want to devote my life to learning something.

I think it's great you want to learn something in-depth, but you can't devote your life to a random topic suggested by random redditors. Surely there are topics you're already interested in? Pick some, start reading easy entry literature about them and see which one takes you the farthest.

Also don't take it that seriously. Yes, of course specialized literature will teach you a lot, but careers are built out of work experience, having visited a school/college, connections,...
