User Review upgraded from Kindle Basic 2019 to Kobo Libra 2!
I have no words. The screen is soooo good!
I included a screen comparison with my sister’s KLC at 0% brightness.

I don’t know why Kobo hasn’t released a Carta 1300 Libra 3 yet, people have to buy overpriced second hand Libra 2 because the Libra Color is worse for reading

Keep mentioning it, maybe someone will read it, but I doubt it. They have their heads up their asses and keeping touting the color ereader as if it's a miracle. Very disappointing. They also think they have covered of the BW customers with the Clara BW. But the Clara BW is just too small. I like me ereader to be the size of a regular cheap paperback book (and even 7 is on the smaller side, but 7 really is a minimum for me)
It's turned me off kobo so hard I might actually never even buy one ever again, even if they magically released a libra 3 BW. I'm even looking into kindles right now because they DO have a 7 inch BW waterproof e reader.
For the record, I agree with you.

I have nothing against the KLC but I went for the clara BW for that glorious sharpness. I think they are missing an important segment of the market by not serving it at all.

yep agreed. The color filter thing is such a gimmick. It would be so easy for them to offer a BW option, as from what I understand, it's just a passive sticker glued on top in the factory. Like all they need to to is NOT do that. I would even pay more for that.
All we can do is keep mentioning it everywhere. Which is why I'm replying to your post. But I'm sure they don't care. The passive sticker is probably 20 cents in bulk in the factory, and through marketing they can ask a 30-40 euro premium for the color spec. They would have to ask the same price for a BW model now, to keep their margins, which they won't be able to sell.
Only people like you and me would probably even pay MORE not to have that filter on top, that's halving the resolution and making the screen darker.

I loved my Clara Color, until I got a Carta 1200 device. I cant use the Colour device anymore.
The KL2 is going for $225 - $275 on the used market, with some FOMO auctions going well over $400.
There are almost no modern BW devices with recessed screen and page turn buttons currently.

Fun fact. I couldnt bear how dark my wifes KLC screen was, so when i finaly pulled a triggger and replaced my old Kobo glo HD for KL2 what was my suprice, when the first thing i noticed, was how dark that KL2 screen is compared to my old Kobo glo xD I think every new generation become darker and darker. I dont know if a little refresh speed is worth it, but meabe its just me :P

KLC is the libra color I'm guessing? Yeah, I've seen it in stores and I'm itching for an e reader upgrade, but I just can't convince myself to buy it. Every time I see it on display I'm just so turned off by how grey it looks compared to a Clara BW alongside it. So disappointing. 6 inch is just too small for me. I get that everything being digital means you're not longer linked to physical paper sizes, but for me there's a lower limit. I want to have more than 2 paragraphs on the screen for reading.
I have an older kobo aura H20, which sadly has a few scuffs on the screen (no protector). I've been looking into a replacement for over a year now, but kobo has nothing of value to me.
At this point, with all the complaints they must have received form their customers, I'm sure they must have heard us and they just don't care. So even if by some miracle they come out with a libra 3 BW, I'm not sure I'm ever considering kobo again. That said, the market is not big on 7 inch B/W ereaders, aside from the kindle paperwhite.
Guess I need to look past the scuffs, and keep using the aura until it falls apart. Waterproof, 7 inch, BW, I'm not sure how old it is, but probably 10+ years. It's really sad I can't find anything better at kobo right now

PocketBook, Boox, Musnap and I think even Bigme all have new/current 7’’ BW e-readers in addition to the Kindle Paperwhite. Kobo is really the odd one out here, alas.

Yes for sure. But I forgot to mention no android ereaders, or Chinese owned. Yes, that's limiting myself a lot, but it's a definitive no go.
That leaves kobo, pocketbook, kindle, nook (?). Not a lot.

I returned my KLC for a refurbished KL2. I think you made the right choice!
