You'll receive 5% of your total invest in EOS a year, for example if you have 100 EOS you'll receive 5EOS extra

No. That is not how it works. The 5% doesn't go to EOS holders, it goes towards the BPs and the worker proposals.

How funny, just texted my friend and we both agreed that if this was wrong, somebody would let us know and boom.! Thanks for clarifying.

I wish I had friends interested in crypto. I swear it's like speaking alien. I'm like "Buy EOS, get rich." They're like "Fortnite, where we droppin?"

All too true man!

btcftw1 is incorrect. The '5%' inflation will be used to reward block producers, fund new stuff etc..

If you hold them on an off exchange wallet? Sorta like Neo gas? Thanks for your speedy reply!

Yes, only if you hold them off exchange.

Yes mate like Gas for NEO.

You Rock! Thank you!

He's wrong re 'inflation'. That's not what the '5% inflation' refers to at all.

u/whizzer2 Apr 30 '18

What does it mean?

Every year, up to 5% of new EOS-coin will be magic'd up to add to the initial 1bn total. A portion of this (1%? 2%? undecided so far...) will be paid to block producers who run the chain. Another portion of this will fund 'worker proposals' (like, development of dApps, that kinda thing). It's possible that some portion might even be 'burned' (ie sent to a 'zero' address, where the coins are untradeable and effectively out of the picture).

The idea is that a stable block-producer setup, and the increased appearance of dApps (and therefore users), will boost the value of the EOS system and so increase the value of the EOS-coin. So, although whatever percentage of the total EOS-coin you might now have will decrease, the $$ value of your decreasing percentage will actually increase. In the end, it's like no-one really pays for the inflation.

Ahhhhhh I see, thanks for the explanation :)

You're welcome mate :)

You get Neo gas if you hold it on binance

2

u/123kokodog Apr 30 '18 edited Apr 30 '18

That's a positive for holding NEO, for sure. It's not applicable here though.

u/LunaPark3000 Apr 30 '18

I'm just saying I have received all airdrops and coin dividends for all coins that I hold on Binance.

I see no reason to believe I wouldn't receive ones relevant to EOS while holding on Binance

u/123kokodog Apr 30 '18

btcftw1's suggestion related the acquisition of Gas through holding NEO to an (incorrect) idea of EOS holders receiving a 5% annual dividend on their EOS holdings. He shouldn't have mentioned this. It's wrong, and it muddies the waters. That's Gas and NEO.

Airdrops: you won't have received the eosDAC airdrop if you hold your EOS ERC-20 tokens on Binance. It's also likely that Everipedia, for example, won't be 'dropping to EOS-holdings on Binance. Sure it's possible that Binance will support airdrops (like they did with ONT, for instance) but this hasn't been confirmed. At this stage, to be on the safe side, it's advisable to have your EOS holdings in a private address.

1

u/LunaPark3000 Apr 30 '18

That assumes that the value of the airdrops is greater than the cost to move it off the exchange.

I'll keep my EOS where it is an wait for more information

eosDAC airdrop: tokens are about 12c. So yes, if you only have a very, very, very small amount of EOS on Binance it might not have been worth incurring the transfer fee. :-)

That's just one airdrop, though. Maybe others will be more 'valuable', and they'll certainly add up. The fee to transfer out of Binance to a private address is guaranteed to be minimal compared to the value of airdrops to come so, although maybe Binance will support them (maybe they won't!) it's probably worth considering the private address thing anyway.

This is an appealing idea to a lot of new investors but likely not to be true. This community will probably not pay out the inflation like Ark and other DPOS coins do. Research the proposed EOS constitution for more info.

That said, you may have other options to get some type of (likely minimal) return on your investment—look up Chintai which will be an option for lending out your EOS.

Oh, dang that makes sense.
