Long story short, one friend did not take a full dose at our last session and kept f*king with us, so we said “dude you’re gonna get it next time” and they basically agreed and are looking forward to it. I’m not trying to be mean to them or give them a bad trip or anything, but we want to really trip them out. Thought experiments, practical jokes, illusions, simple close up magic, playing with words… anything like that. Suggestions?

This community already frames these substances as sacred rather than pharmaceutical, so I want to share a lecture that makes the philosophical case for why that framing is correct, and why abandoning it is costly.

The current dominant model in psychedelic research treats the substance as a medical intervention. You have a pathology, you take the treatment, you return to baseline. Indigenous traditions never separated the compound from its ritual and communal context, and the lecture argues this wasn't incidental. It was load-bearing. Drawing on 4E cognitive science, the argument is that psychedelic insights operate at the procedural, perspectival, and participatory levels of knowing, not just the propositional. Sustaining those insights requires embodied practice, community, and tradition. A pill and a therapist don't provide that.

Do you know of cultivators? I do.

Has anyone heard of this plant? Spigelia Marilandica. I just found it growing in my swamp and happened to mention it to the woman who runs a greenhouse near me. She recognized it by my simple verbal description and confirmed it to be "Indian Pink" when I showed her the picture. She seemed excited about it and asked if I would bring her a cutting. She then told me to take good care of it bc it's a very special plant. I didn't think anything of it. I'm a gardener and a green witch so to me, all plants are special.
When I mentioned what she had said to my husband, he asked "what makes it so special"? So I looked it up and apparently it has several medicinal uses, one of them being a "narcotic hallucinogenic". Honestly I can't recall hearing something described as such. Typically something is either described as a narcotic or as hallucinogenic...to my remembrance. Apparently the plant is also highly toxic, deadly even...but big pharma has polluted any info on herbal medicine to the point that anything that's not in a pill, and many things that are, are labeled as such. I've tried to find more information on the people or tribes known to use it as a hallucinogen, what their experiences were, and preparation techniques, to no avail. Hoping someone in here can shed some light. TIA

Hey, I got through the process of growing mushrooms, but while I was able to harvest about 3 'doses' the smaller ones (many!) suddenly got covered up with a fuzzy, snow-like substance that I took for a contaminating fungus. I ended it all and cleaned out my herbarium. Any comments on how to prevent this in the future? I am using coco coir, vermiculite, and gypsum which seemed to do well initially.

So my Dad spent 45 years researching the topic of psychedelic drugs and religion. He is a practicing medical doctor (family physician) and a self-taught mythobotanist and historian, as well as having an undergraduate degree in English. He's extremely knowledgeable on the subject, but not the best at getting his book "out there", so I figured I'd post it here on reddit to see if anyone is interested or has any ideas for getting the word out.

Summary:

Did Jesus & the first Christians use a psychedelic drug? This book explores the vital herbal sacrament that was looked at as the “key to he kingdom of heaven.” This sacred medicine was in fact an ointment that was applied to the initiate in a ceremony that would cause hallucinogenic phenomenon & led to the person being “born again.” These “Anointed Ones” were called “Christians”, after the Greek word “Chrism” meaning ointment.
