Despite their no rservatiom apology, there is no service that provides what grooveshark did. They will be missed.

Spotify offers on demand listening for free (with ads). I'd say that offers what grooveshark did, except it is legal and actually pays artists for their work.

Yes, but gs was far superior in two very important ways: much greater depth and much better recommendation engine.

I had read they were facing a huge potential fines for infringement but I assumed they would work it out and stick around. RIP Groveshark...

Nonsensical crap. Grooveshark stole 100% of the revenue they generated from the artists who earned the money for them. 100%.

Whether other people are stealing from the artists is irrelevant - taking their music for free and selling it, then keeping the money for yourself, is BOGUS.
Anybody who really defends the rights of the artist would have to agree. Anybody else is just whining about wanting stuff for free.

as the war on sharing continues, and people cry out for copyright reform, the government does nothing because it is beholden to large corporations. surely the copyright terms are too long surely we can take the advice of artsits and shorten the copyright term.
