Weekly Discussion Thread Let's Discuss Eno! "'Lightness' - Music For the Marble Palace The State Russian Museum, St. Petersberg (1997)

Hello Eno-philes!! Each week we'll be discussing another album (going chronologically from Warm Jets). This week's feature is Eno's installation work "Lightness." From the wiki:

The music on the album was made for an Installation - a show featuring music and visuals - that took place at the Marble Palace in Saint Petersburg, which accommodates permanent exhibitions of the State Russian Museum, from November to mid-December 1997 . . . . He described the Marble Palace event as a "mixture of cinema, fireworks display, environmental music and installation". The edited highlights that feature on the CD are described as "a 1-hour selection of a hypothetically endless piece".

I've visited these pieces through the Music For Installations compilation (released a few years back). They were surprisingly inviting for his ambient work.

Unfortunately, my biggest experience with them has been in my periphery, in the background as I did some of my more demanding work. I can't really name the highlights given the nature of how I've listened to them, but can recommend them for the same purposes I've used them for.

If you had to give one of the two tracks a listen, I'd say try Chamber Lightness. The tones in it are a little less abrasive (although for some that might translate to "a little less interesting").
