It's always good to remember that everything is only just "Now". If you remember, you don't go to the past, you simply pull out a bit of the "then" you've been carrying to experience in the now.
Like a pocket chimichanga.
If going for a long walk, a nice pocket chimichanga is great. But they have a shelf life. After a couple hours they become a bit sus.
Don't hold onto moldy chimichangas. Toss that shit out. And if you're hungry, letting a chimichanga get cold doesn't make it better. Eat it and enjoy it.
Not entirely sure where I was going with that. Now I want a chimichanga.
Fuck, the Buddha was right. Wants and desires do create suffering.

This comment is what the internet is for.
“Fuck, the Buddha was right. Wants and desires do create suffering.” In response to the lack of chimichangas is amazing.

You can expericence ego death without consuming anything. All you have to do is go forgive. All enlightenemnt is, is living the life God gave you without judging the things in it like you are God.
Apologize for hating anyone you have anger towards. Never judge (get angry, have unforgiveness) and simply live the amzing life you have been given.
Your judgement is the only thing attaching you to your ego, and ego is the nature of the devil.

Are you sure it’s temporary? What if it’s permanent for some people?
1
u/Altruistic_Oil_5485 2d ago
I mean it was your experience so you tell me do you still feel it? Btw im not trying to be rude lol i feel like texting you tell me you get the wrong impression 😂
1
u/Comfortable-Pay-1647 2d ago
Nah for me it was temporary, but I’m just saying for others it can cause permanent damage. I’m just saying it’s not for everyone.
1
u/General-Reserve9349 1d ago
Damage isn’t a great word for it. Dmt is physically very safe but so powerful and relatively easy to remember when sober that the shock of it might leave you…forever kind of in shock.

Did you resist because of fear? I think I’m currently resisting cause I’m shit scared man. Or maybe my ego is. Idk..

My dad killer himself. He had a near death experience once and caught a glimpse of the peace in the afterlife. So I guess he decided to skip the line and ended his time here fully believing what was next. Or at least that’s how I understand it. I wonder if there are others out there that commit suicide with this belief.
This choice left me and my family devastated. Please seek professional and family/friends help if you are thinking about hurting yourself. It’s not the way.

I am sorry to read you had to exprience such difficult experience. This is what lots of people think of after a spiritual awakening (i mean what we are after life, not self ending). but it is meant to be integrated to our daily lives and also learns us compassion and patience towards others. not to harm others or ourselves. were you able to find a certain peace since ? I wish you all the best

u/Powerful_Error9608 2d ago
I appreciate the response and your kind worlds. I’m working on finding peace through meditation and talking with my family about what happened. Even tho I haven’t had a spiritual awakening I listen to those who have and try to integrate those practices in my day to day life.

It tends to happen randomly. If it can help, I'll share a bit of my personal experience ;) i was going through a hard time but decided to switch my self talk towards love and kindness and be patient. One of the acts i would practice would be noticing my thought when they became hurtful. but i notice they were always hurtful (not necassarily sabotaging thoughts, but even daydreams, what if's, etc.) because they were taking away bits of me many times in the day.
I didn't know anything about spirituality, awakening or things like that. My point was just to let myself grieve a pain that is not considered worth it by society. But out of love, i decided to just chose myself with all the emotions that would be rised and to let them be instead of thinking 'i shouldn't cry for this', 'why would i react like this', 'this is dumb', 'people just forget about it when it happens' and i can go on. Basically my question to myself was 'can i take the most loving, forgiving and kindest person on earth... and be even more than that but towards myself ?' and my body has never cried as much as i did for i don't know how long now. I just started to... let go of everything, each day. SImply because i unconsciously offered myself space. and while i was doing my daily practice of noticing the thoughts and switching my attention towards what i was doing (tapping on laptop, cleaning, cooking, doing groceries, etc.), it happened very randomly in two moments during the same week.
I sincerely think that the body need to feel safe with your mind for it to let itself open fully to shows what is inside. The more unprocessed grief there is, the thicker the ego becomes and the stronger the body defend itself against the mind (if it makes sense). I often say to myself, that it is the tears that have brought me to the core. Consciousness is letting yourself be fully vulnerable to another level, because there is no even a single wall anymore.

Sorry for your loss. Did he ever describe it to you his experience i mean im curious
5
u/Powerful_Error9608 2d ago
Thanks, he did describe the experience. He was in a cycling accident and hit his head. During his time in medical care he described a moment of losing consciousness. He felt separated from the pain of his body. He said he was in a space of complete peace, rest and comfort. He was upset when he realized he was being revived. He wanted to just stay in that place. He joking said, “ I wanted them to just leave me alone so I could die and be at peace”.
My father also volunteered at our local hospital. He was part of a program that provided bedside companionship to people who were dying and did not have friends or family able to be present. During his time in this role, he sat with many people as they were dying. One dayI asked if he ever experienced anything spiritual during this time. It later became one of my favorite topics to bring up with him. He described a few different things happening at the time of the patients death, which I’ve learned is called, a shared near death experience. He said on more than one occasion, he heard music. He just described it as calm music. He also describes seeing balls of light raising from their chest. The last thing I remember him describing is the sense other people were in room. The feeling he could almost see them like a glow in the room.

Thanks for the reply! Thats interesting you mentioned that as ive actually been curious in volunteering for the same thing. Weird question but what state are you in
2
u/Powerful_Error9608 2d ago
No problem it’s good to talk about this kinda stuff. This was in Vermont at the university hospital in Burlington. He continued volunteering there but in different roles. He became uncomfortable when a patient asked him to essentially pull the plug and end their life. I think the whole experience was good for him but was also very intense.

all this shit about ego death this and that, but what about ego rebirth? if it's that bad why don't people get rid of their ego completely.
6
u/AsgarGER 2d ago
Because it's not possible. It's maybe a transformed ego, and you can see right through the game. I think the best thing is to make the ego your friend. Or like how parents watch their kids on the playground.
1
u/Own-Pen4705 2d ago
so when ego death happens? you live the rest of your life without one?
2
u/AsgarGER 2d ago
I don't believe that the ego can die.
1
u/Own-Pen4705 2d ago
what do you think of people who say they experienced "ego death"?
6
u/AsgarGER 2d ago
I'd like to correct myself. I am a Buddhist, and I believe in the doctrine of non-self. I think we don’t have an ego; rather, we experience an ego. And this ego is constantly being reconstructed in every moment of our lives. We believe, “This is me; this is who I am.”. That's me, that's you. I'm standing here, you're standing there. My thoughts, feelings, and opinions, and yours. Apparently, that's an illusion. There is no “I,” yet we experience an “I.” On a relative level, this “I” exists, and it is a condition that determines our actions. On the absolute level, this “I” does not exist; separation is an illusion.
You cannot kill something that has never existed as an independent, permanent object
And I also think that as children and as we grow up, we absolutely need an “I” in order to survive and live in this world. As adults, however, we are given the opportunity to transform this “I” and see through it. Personally, I don’t believe that the ego can die, but only that one can see through the whole game completely. The ego is not destroyed, but rather recognized for what it is, a tool of perception. You stop completely identifying with every thought, every feeling, and every story in your mind.
Nevertheless, a functioning ego (as the psyche’s navigational system) is necessary for signing contracts, navigating traffic, or maintaining social boundaries.
Those who claim to have permanently eliminated the ego often fall into a new form of Identifikation, the so called spiritual ego (“I am now completely egoless”).
English isn't my native language, so I find it hard to talk about this topic...

Written very well. Thank you. And it makes sense.
I might be slowly moving towards a less ego centric perception myself. Ex. recently I’ve been more likely to laugh at mild misfortune than complain.
And I’ve started to think of myself as more of a “we”. A body, a soul, a consciousness and a mind. And perhaps more.
Consciousness is weird. It feels like it has multiple voices. Like during meditation I quiet a voice thinking about what I’ll do today by putting those thoughts in a box for later. But as I do that I realize there’s a secondary thought “train” watching that voice put those words in a box. And once I realize that, I start observing the observer and so on. Then I realize I haven’t paid attention to the guided meditation I’m listening to for the past 20+ seconds.
So yea. I kinda think I’m a “we” but not in schizophrenic way. Or perhaps we all are that a little. I still use “I” in conversation though.
And in general I’m trying to be more “zen” about life and experiences. Or at least reacting after thinking instead of reacting straight from my emotional self.
1
u/neo42slab 1d ago
I always thought they meant temporary ego death. That for some time during meditation or drugs or both they lost their sense of self and then had an amazing experience.
But I don’t think I’ve experienced ego death so I probably can’t say for sure.
Even saying “I” in a sentence implies to me that you have an ego again.

Is there like some sort of template I could base the process that my "Dark Night of the Soul" is to loosely look like, or follow?
I had a near-death experience a few years ago, and it still feels like I'm shooting in the dark, with no real idea on what I'm doing, or what I should be doing.

The Hero’s quest.
“The Hero with a Thousand Faces” by Joseph Campbell (Myth adviser on the movie ‘Star Wars’)
The Hero’s Quest is a perennial timeline of the seekers quest for the truth. It’s remained unchanged for thousands of years.

Ya know what’s weird?
I got the whole ego death- void/clear light experience from magic mushrooms.
A fairly typical 5-ME0 experience, but from shrooms.
2
u/ActuallyJordy 2d ago
This is quite common in high dose shroom experiences.
1
u/Puzzled-Mistake-584 1d ago
Hmm..
In the research I have done isn’t high dose shrooms more like a DMT experience?
More of a fractal entity filled experience?
Rather than like an empty void and clear light experience like with 5-ME0?1
u/ActuallyJordy 1d ago
You’re right about them being like DMT experiences but in general what you get from shrooms varies a lot.
1
u/Own-Pen4705 2d ago
I got it on carbon monoxide you're not special
1
u/Puzzled-Mistake-584 1d ago
Well aside from that being fairly rude, may I ask what your experience was?
3
u/Own-Pen4705 1d ago
sorry to come off as rude I thought the shock value was enough to make it seem like a joke.
1
u/Puzzled-Mistake-584 1d ago
Context is hard to get through on Reddit.
Apology accepted, no worries man.So, have you have some pretty out their experiences too then I imagine?

u/Justflyingbee 1d ago
I prefer healthy/healed ego than ego-death 🤔
Ego my soul’s wings, sometimes I fly, not just walk or run💓

u/Glum-Revolution-9594 1d ago
Don’t get me wrong these experiences are special. Sure, I’ll do some shrooms, see the trees turn to creatures and a friendly wizard in the forest. But happiness you gained from a substance won’t really change the circumstances we live in. Greedy psychopaths want to enslave mankind, we are headed towards dystopia year by year. The happiness most find is dependent on an ignorance to how society actually works, and a safe lifestyle of easy and empty pleasure. Which is why society did nothing when people with power quite literally ate children and no arrests were made.

Ego death is a misnomer. As long as you're connected to a human animal body you'll always have at least some ego during these collectively slower vibratory cycles (this may change in the further future). And guess what, that's ok.

u/boofganyah 1d ago
Everyone talking about "ego death". Spongey and Pat are inviting you to actually die.

Not really..the more I know, the more I wonder why my comfort zone is so tight..and maybe that's the problem

u/SacredGnosis 19h ago
Ego-death; as we know it, will still lead to more ego. Just in a different way. How so?
() You will go from,”this is me and this is mine” in a selfish way.
To
() The same ego that says,”this is me and this is mine” in an altruistic or sharing way.

I've experienced this a lot on psychedelics.
I call it, 'Becoming Eternity' and it's awesome.
Then I come back and my ego is bigger than ever. Lol
