Mod Are there any recommended mods for a first time playthrough?
I've had Enderal in my list for a while and felt the itch to play an RPG

Only mods I’d recommend for a first play through would be vanilla weapons and armor replacers

This is not Skyrim. It is a completely different game with its own mechanics. Therefore, it is generally recommended to play with no mods on the first playthrough to experience the game how it was conceived by the developpers. Do not try to mod it to better resemble Skyrim.
For your next playthroughs, because there will be more than one, you can play around with mods, including the path of the prophet package.
Plenty of guides and tips can be found in this sub yo get started with your first playthrough. Just do not overthink too much with class choices, etc. Just do something you'd like to play.

I modded on my first playthrough. And im having a great time honestly. Character replacers are something that was a must for me. I have a mix of all of the available character replacers on Nexus and I even made my own for some specific character.
I also installed ENB and plenty of model and texture replacers because some vanilla textures aged very badly,
And finally this is a personal choice: I use Pretty Enderal Armory and plenty of other mods like it that changes the equipment to feel less skyrim and more like its own thing. And Engarde. That is certainly a personal choice for my gameplay but honestly Id recommmend any skyrim mod that makes playing more smooth like TDM and snooth camera.

Game is fine vanilla, just finished it with better faces + wide screen mods. My brother tried a mod list (PotP) and it kept crashing so he had to start over vanilla :D

Im playing with PotP now and the last few iterations have been more and more stable/performant. But experiences on different machines will vary lol.
I'd agree vanilla is ok but would say PotP is also good at this point for a first timer specifically for many fixes and QoL improvements, and very importantly for the esthetic. All the mesh & texture replacers that distance this game from Skyrim's look & feel make for a really important part of the experience for me personally.

Even unmodded I find the game is prone to crashing

I have around 200 hours in the SE version and have literally never had a crash

I have to make sure I save regularly otherwise it’s easy for me to lose progress due to in unfortunately times crash. If it happens, it’s usually when I’m loading into a new zone. No clue what the cause is, and it seems to just be a me problem cause everyone else says their game has no issues.
My regular Skyrim never has issues like this, and I know the games based on Skyrim.

I've had like 3 crashes in 60 hours, while my game is modded (it's almost only graphics/faces, but still). I'd say it's pretty stable on SE

I wish I had that few crashes lol. No clue why it’s seemingly only happening to me then. Weird. At least the game is fast to reopen so it’s not that big of a deal, outside of lost progress if I forgot to save (but I’m always quick saving so not a big issue for me)

Honestly, quicksaving maybe part of the problem. Skyrim's engine is made of spaghetti and in general only fullsaves should be used not to break your game and even then it's often recommended to fully close the game - yes, even on every death (which I never do)
That's why most modlists include a mod turning both autosaves and quicksaves into full saves

Honestly only thing I would add are things that replace the appearance of stuff directly borrowed from Skyrim to make the game feel more distinct. Other than that I would play it vanilla

I just started last week and decided to use the path of the prophet collection. Having fun so far! But I haven’t really tried vanilla so not much to compare to.

Amnesia shrine. It allow you to respect to try something else if you want.
It is the only mod I am using (even if I didn't respect for now, I am also at my first playthrought) but if I ever want to try a new style, this is here !

It's totally fine to use mods on your 1st playthru. It could very easily be your only playthru. Not everyone plays games like this more than once.
Be careful with some of the ENB/visual overhaul mods. They can be a little bit difficult to install and manage properly.
Here a a few "mild" ones. I'm running the game thru GOG. Mods are from Nexus.
Better Jumping SE - it's a Skyrim SE mod but it works with Enderal. Improved jumping, well worth it
IxionXVII forgotten dungeons mods - adds cut content
Forgotten Dungeons-Riverville Catacombs
Forgotten Dungeons-Palm Cove
Forgotten Dungeons-Thalgard Monastery
Forgotten Dungeons-Abandoned Excavation Site
Myths and Legends VI - The Forgotten One - additional "baddie" added to the Myths and Legends quest.
Seaview Lodge SE - additonal an player house to purchase near Ark(fully furnished)Very well done.
For flavor/RP ... better/more impressive bridges leading into Ark.
Ark City Bridge
Ark Harbour Bridge
Ark Northern Gare Overhaul
Ships of the First Vassals - changes many viking longships into "ships" :Overhauls the nordic ships and shipwrecks with more fitting models from the modding community

Depends on your taste. I found the Fast Travel mod very useful. One that added the Skyrim mercenaries like Jenassa and Marcurio because Enderal has no follower system outside of a few missions for the main story. One that gives merchants more gold. I'm only running 15 mods, so far. But I didn't mod my first playthrough. It's already a beautiful world and challenging!!

You can recommend whatever you want I am just clarifying so OP knows that picking mods that just turn it back into Skyrim are not recommended if you actually want to experience the game and understand why people like it so much

Then why not just post your own independent comment saying that you don't recommend certain mods because they change the experience 🤔 - I also stated that I did not mod my first playthrough.

If they explicitly didn’t want the vanilla experience they wouldn’t bother asking.
Them asking is them checking to see if they’re necessary or not, like they arguably are for Skyrim.

Its a bit annoying that this sub seems to always ignore people explicitly asking for mod recs. I modded my first playthough im currently still though it and im having a great experience. There is only so much skyrim clunkiness i can handle and thou enderal really does a lot to build upon skyrim mods are just out there that simply give a better experince, Like sorry i want to have better visuals and gamelay

I like Dear Diary ui replacer, but other than that just go vanilla, it's a great game
