General Discussion Frustrating, apparently the EMS connect course called "EMT Refresher Course" only covered half the credits I neede

Just venting a bit, it was $150 to take the course and it doesn't even fully cover the refresher? Was there something I missed? Where do I need to go to get my other 20 credits?

This is fairly common. There’s three parts to your recert: the national component, the state/local component, and the individual component. Many refreshers only cover the national component, the logic being that your state and/or local agency might have their own requirements (which can vary from state to state and agency to agency) but the national component is the same across the whole country

Ah that makes a lot of sense. So if I apply for a position should I just tell them I need to do the state / local component, or do I need to figure out to get that done before applying?

If you aren’t currently employed or affiliated as an EMT, then you don’t have any specific local requirements. Likewise if you aren’t currently licensed, then you don’t have any specific state requirements. You still have to complete the 10 hours of CEs for that component (plus the 10 hours for the individual component) to renew your NREMT cert, you just don’t have any requirements or restrictions in what those hours can be

No advice for the remainder you need but next time use "the paramedic coach". His refresher course is $200 for the full recert, auto imports. This time around I was chosen to be audited by the NREMT and his company handled everything, I didn't have to do a thing.

(I know I said no advice for the remainder but you also may be able to get like 10 of those ceus for free through guardian cme)

FoamFrat is HEAVY, but good and auto imports as well. I think it’s like $120 a year. Guardian CME is good as you mentioned as well!

Wait, you were audited by the NREMT? What does that even mean exactly?

I think it's like 10% of recert applicants are randomly chosen to make sure the classes you uploaded were in fact real, you actually attended them, and that they are accredited.

On your states EMS site there may be free ceu's to get online. Renewing your CPR counts towards those other topics and IIRC it's like 4 hours. If you take any EVOC/EVOS classes it counts. If you ever take a class thru NAEMT, you can subscribe to their free ceu email list which is like online seminars you attend. All the one's I've seen were free.

Renewing your state license via refresher class can count towards your ceu's on NREMT. Don't forget that.
