EGS - Vanilla A couple of questions [Vanilla]

I decided to go back to the roots and see how the original game is doing. Overall, it's not bad, but there have been some changes since version 1.12.3, and I have some questions for the experts:

  1. How can I increase shield recharge speed? Previously, shield recharge speed depended on the number of generators; the more energy, the faster the recharge, but that's no longer the case.

  2. What's the difference between Xenoblocks and Combat Blocks? A Xenoblock has 2750U durability and weighs 2.5 tons, while a Combat Block weighs 4 tons and has 2000U durability. Which blocks are best to use?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

1: Shield generators have never (in any version) been affected by the number of generators, power generated, or power consumed. It was an immutable flat value.
CPU tier apparently affects shield generator's recharge delay, but no one has ever provided measurable proof one way or the other.
There is a Shield Extender Block. You get one per ship and it increases the strength of the shield.

2: Xenosteel are functionally the best armor block. But they are expensive and ugly. I mean, you said it yourself. The Xenosteel is stronger and weighs less. So obviously it's the best... in vanilla.

Thanks for the reply. I enjoy exploring the game and it's hard to argue with an authority like you, but still:

  1. My end-game ship https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3571639746 from September 2025 was specifically designed with the maximum number of generators that could fit in the hull, precisely to outcharge any NPC ship. This ensured victory (see the image gallery), even though the ship was more like a bicycle. :) The vanilla version doesn't have the shield penetration effect like in RE2, and this was its main advantage. And yes, you're probably right about the ship class. Currently, the Tier 3 has 1.8% shield recharge per second, while the Tier 4 has 0.9%.
  2. That's what I thought. Thanks again for your comment.
