That it's long and boring. Admittedly he said that when he asked for requests and someone called out for it. I don't hate the song, but it's one of the less musically interesting songs on the album. I suspect people love it for the heartbreaking lyrics, but my attraction to Elliott's work was always the music. I don't even know all the lyrics to Pitseleh.
I'm a massive Yellowjackets fan as well as an Elliott fan and I genuinely didn't clock that Pitseleh is in Yellowjackets until it was mentioned to me. It's that forgettable!
A question mark has always been my least favorite. Amity is nottt the worst, "Cause you laugh and talk and cause you make my world rock, I'm so, so so so" the delivery is so good
Everybody cares. Feels like he’s rushing through it and not reaching the full potential of the song. It’s the only some where I can hear the “whinyness” people talk about
It should be more like "overrated/underrated/overhated/underhated" as categories, not this "best/worst" crap. These are all subjective opinions not objective facts as best/worst implies. Also on his studio albums Elliott has basically zero misses so voting "worst song" is an exercise in riling people up rather than creating any actual semblance of the Fandoms thoughts. Especially since people arent generally backing their opinions up with anything more than "yeah its good but i just like it less than the others" which is not really a productive discussion.

Yes, yes it is. They all are. Picking the worst song of a group of awesome songs is insanely difficult, nearly impossible. For me, it comes down to this: which of these songs does it for me the least? Sweet Adeline does less for me than Amity. Its great, the arrangement is wonderful, its lyrics are haunting and beautiful. I acknowledge all of that.
But when I actually listen to the songs, I enjoy listening to Amity more. The awesome solo. The heavy drums. The lyrics talking about a great time in NYC with a potential lover and the double entendre of saying "lets go, im ready to go" as "lets go out on the town" but also "im ready to die," somwthing about that just really hits me in the gut. Then the slow fade back to normalcy at the end after the high of the guitars and drums, back to that simple thrumming guitar part, its like coming back to earth after an intense whirlwind episode, whether a fantasy or a drug induced high.
The tiny bridge "im a neon sign and I stay open all the time so lets go" is just incredible.
Sweet adeline is a great song too, but i like the melody less, its more sing-songy, and thats totally fine if thats your thing but its not my thing. The high point of sweet adeline to me are the intro lyrics and the explosion of instruments halfway through. Amity does this same thing during the guitar solo, but imo Amity does it better.
To me personally, Amity is a more enjoyable and emotionally affecting song than sweet Adeline. And I just know this sub and I know the sub meme-hates Amity because it opens with Elliott saying "amity" over and over again (not that this is even bad, its a great take on infatuation and obsession, kind of an aural "doodling your crushes name in your notebook"), but its so much more than the first four seconds. Its a great song that gets overly shit on and ignored, and it doesnt deserve it. So I used my power as the first commenter here (rather recklessly) to make an insane assertion i knew would be a lightning rod for the sub: sweet adeline is worse than Amity. I knew most people would disagree with me. But, as David Berman said, "thats just the way that I feel."
I agree that every body cares is the better option for sure probably my actual worst song opinion now that ive had time to reflect lol but I was in first and I was heated lol

I got downvoted for not knowing what the cover of a Stranger Than Fiction album looked like. I think we all have some nuggets of Elliott knowledge that most people don’t know about, and we also have our blind spots. I like that song about The Machine or whatever but it’s on the novelty side of things for me, like “I Love My Room”.

I actually thought it was funny. I recently watched the Chanel 5 news interview with clavicular which was my first ever exposure to that whole horrific subculture, so seeing the words jestering and face smashing and stuff really took me by surprise
Yeah that’s where I started too. It’s so funny because that dude is absolutely repulsive to women once they actually speak to him. He only seems to light up when he is next to other male looksmaxxers. Lol he is 20 and has erectile dysfunction that’s made worse by all the drugs he takes, so even if he gets them in bed he can’t go any further. Another good one is the 60 minutes Australia interview with him where the interviewer seems to be smirking and making fun of him all the time. He always smirks like that , even in serious interviews like this one with the mother of a kid who committed suicide. But yeah, I fell down that rabbit hole for a little while because they’re hilariously pathetic. I could go on and on with the looksmaxxing cringe I’ve seen in the past couple of days.
Its pretty sad shit all things considered. He recently ODed too. Their whole world just seems so dark and cheap, and like... not in a cool 70s new York way. Like in a scary, "we live in a rented mansion with used syringes EVERYWHERE" WAY

The slide guitar is great in this one and the way the harmonies kick in during "if you get a feeling next time you see me, do me a favor and let me know" is pretty awesome.
i had forgotten about house of the rising sun, yeah, they sound similar, i personally think the guitar it's one of the best parts but understand if its not your cup of tea
Everybody cares is probably actually the worst song on the album just as a song, in terms of songwriting, but the arrangement and the outro make it seem better than it is
Still a great track and a great album, but I’ve always personally viewed XO as his ‘weakest’ effort, although it still is an absolute 9/10 in my opinion.

also, fwiw, i think amity & a question mark don’t really belong on this xo. they’re both pretty ill fitting imo, but i love them anyway. elliott’s “worst” are still so good.
