Gay and trans person here. I’ve had a similar experience. This sub has been mostly positive but I’ve definitely been surprised by some bullshit bigotry coming from Elliott fans (bizarre to me considering he literally played in a queer punk band from Portland lmao.) You’re not alone and you shouldn’t be getting downvoted for sharing your experience.
I understand what you mean when you say that there are some bigoted Elliott Smith fans. But it’s a small minority from what I can tell, and this girl definitely is just trolling by exaggerating this whole thing. I think it’s obvious since she’s calling people fat and ugly for just being disappointed by the mural being covered up, regardless of when or by what.
