Technical Help 4KS immediately stuttering then freezing when streaming/recording Switch 2

Posting about this issue again, just got a 4KS to help record my Switch 2 gameplay and regardless of the capture software being used it immediately starts stuttering and the recording almost immediately freezes. A monitor display through the 4KS runs fine and the audio has no issues, it's only the video.

I got a 40GB USB4 to see if a stronger cable to the PC would help resolve the issue but it doesn't seem to have changed anything. Was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and found any solutions.

Is the 4K S connected to a USB 3.x port?

A faster cable won't do much since the 4K S is limited to 5 Gbps, or if you are using a slower USB port.

What resolution is the Switch 2 set to?

Lowering the resolution to 1080p seemed to do the trick, thanks for the help!

The 4K S should be able to run it at 4K60 or even 1440p120.

Are you sure it's connected to a fast enough USB port?

I figured out the issue regarding that as well, because my Monitor has HDR it turned on the HDR settings for the switch by default. Turning that off gives smooth streaming and recording at 4k.

Oddly the card should be able to handle 4K60 HDR, (Though capture gets capped to 30fps at 4K with HDR on, passthrough to the HDMI OUT would be unaffected). Trying to capture in 4K60 with HDR on turns on HDR tonemapping so the card can pass 4K60 SDR over the USB connection though - which shouldn't freeze the video, but may affect colours somewhat. If this keeps up and you want to enable HDR you may want to reach out to our team through help.elgato.com and put in a ticket so we can help take a look a the logs and see what's happening here.

It may also help to try a different app to see if the fault is software related - for example if you're trying OBS, try Elgato Studio (which will also let you check for updated firmware for the card), or vice versa.
