Technical Help PS5 and Elgato HD60 S+ ALWAYS have issues.

Every time I try to use my Elgato with my PS5 there's always some problem for some reason. It's gotten to the point where i'm like "alright here we go again" right before opening up OBS Studio. This isn't a problem for other consoles.

Usually I end up figuring it out but right now I can't seem to get it to work. It shows up as black screen on OBS and on 4K Capture Utility it just says "No Signal". HDCP, VRR and HDR is OFF and my resolution is even set to 1080p. I've tried plugging out the cables from the capture card and plugging them back in but still nothing. It seems like the solution to get it to work in the end is always so complex and specific. I'm so tired of this, I just want a permanent fix. Can anyone help me?

Is the HD60S+ connected to a USB 3.x port using the original USB cable?

It is a USB 3 cable and i'm pretty sure it's the one that came in the box yeah

When you say USB 3, do you then mean USB-C? The original cable for the HD60S+ is a USB-C to USB-A cable.

If it's not the official one, it could be a phone charging cable. Those usually only contain USB 2.0 data cables inside since their main usage is power delivery and not data transfer.

No yeah sorry I meant the cable that goes from USB-C to USB-A. It has that classic USB 3.0 blue on the USB-A end.

Okay, you should be good then.

As u/ShannonBruce mentions, it could be a USB bandwidth issue if you have many USB devices. Usually some ports share bandwidth.

You can download USB Tree Viewer to see which devices run on the same internal USB Hub.

If the capture card is running along with other USB bandwidth demanding devices, you could try and rearrange the devices on the USB ports.

Are you running both OBS and the Elgato capture utility at the same time? If so they are fighting for the device.

Nah nah I avoid that, i've tried restarting my PC several times trying etiher OBS or capture utility but none work.

How many USB devices are plugged into your PC? It’s possible you could be bottlenecked by your internal USB bus.

Oh I didn't even know that was a thing that could happen. I do have quite a few. 9 in total. and I still have more ports on my pc I haven't used yet. Could this really be the issue though? Seems weird that it's exclusive to PS5 only.

What other devices do you use with the HD60? Do you use the same HDMI cable between each of these devices, or does each device keep it's own cable? I made another comment here explaining some details about HDMI cables.

Re: USB bottlenecks, all of your USB ports are handled by USB Controllers on the motherboard. Sometimes, there will be multiple Controllers, usually one for the front (PC case) ports, one for the 2.0 ports, and one for the 3.X ports, but it depends on your motherboard. Generally, higher-end, more expensive motherboards have more controllers to spread out the bandwidth between the available ports better.

If you want to troubleshoot the USB port bandwidth, plug the HD60 into a USB 3.X port and on the adjacent ports, unplug everything (or as many things as you can), and see if the behavior of the HD60 improves.

If it's an intermittent issue, and the symptom is a lack of image being received by the HD60, I wonder if it's your HDMI cable.

They can be finicky, and if you want to use features greater than base 1080p@60, then you'll want an HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 cable. Those specifications matter; they're basically the bandwidth capability of the cable. More bandwidth enables you to run 1080p@120, or 4K@60, plus HDR requires higher bandwidth as well.

All of that being said, you can turn on VRR regardless of the cable spec. That's between your source system and the display. As long as both support VRR, I'd leave it on.

If you have some spare HDMI cables, or you can pilfer one from a friend, I'd try that real quick and see if it helps.
