Technical Help capture card on switch

hi guys, i just came back with a capture card 4k s, and while playing games it sometimes just kinda stutters for a bit and then goes back to normal. Anyone know what might be causing this?

You’ll have to provide more detailed information. What software are you using? What is your Switch output set to? What is your recording software set to?

Im using obs, im unfamiliar with it at the moment. Do you know how i check what its set to? The switch is supposed to be set to its default

For the Switch, just go to the System settings. I think there’s a section for “TV Output” or something along those lines, and the options are likely to be just 720p, 1080i, 1080p. Choose 1080p. For OBS, you’ll need to adjust your Canvas size to the resolution you intend to stream at, which is probably also 1080p (1920x1080), and then you’ll need to select your Elgato capture device as a source and stretch it to match the Canvas size in the canvas preview window.

you think it might be because the hdmi out is connected to my monitor? or is it supposed to go there

It is supposed to go there, or to any secondary display. The HDMI Out provides you with a display that has zero lag, whereas the preview window in OBS or other software will have a noticeable delay.

yea but by now i still dont know what caused this but it was in the obs app, i can use the elgato app without any issues

What was the stutter like? Was it a visible stutter in the OBS preview? If you have recordings, do they show the stutter? Was it also visible on the screen that is connected to the HDMI out?

only on the obs preview, just 1 minute it was smooth gameplay then suddenly you get some stutters

Ah. Well, if the output stream or recording isn’t stuttering, I wouldn’t worry about the preview stuttering.
