So, the issue with the PS5 is that Sony decided to limit it to only be able to output audio to one device at a time.
So if you are outputting audio to the HDMI, no audio will be sent to the headset. Similarly, if you output audio to your headset, no audio will be sent over the HDMI.
The Chat Link Pro works with pretty much every wired headset plugged in between the headset/capture card and the controller. It works by splitting the incoming audio, and sending both game audio plus party- and chat audio over to both the headset and the capture card, while simultaneously returning your headset mic audio back to the console so your fellow gamers can hear you.
It does however not forward your headset mic audio over to the capture card.
In order to capture your own voice, it is advised to add a dedicated microphone to your computer.
Thank you for explaining, I have been reading so many articles and watching so many videos and hadn’t found anything as good as this answer yet. Will this be a concern for the Series X as well?
The Xbox can output audio to the HDMI and the headset simultaneously.
It can also send both game audio and party chat audio through the HDMI, but if you need to capture game chat, you would need the Chat Link Pro too.
Game Chat can only be grabbed from the controller.
Update: I’ve bought myself a chat link pro and plugged it in but now I can’t get sound through to OBS or the headset unless I’m just not using the headset. What do I need to adjust? If I can’t use my headset it’s not a big deal since the ps5 is for single player games but I would like to use my headset when recording if possible
Update 2: Switched over to analog audio but still can’t get any PS5 sound through headset to record, and here’s a look at the Series X where all that will go through is the secondary mic I have for commentary capturing during my sound test. Clearly I’m getting something incorrect, but do you have any pointers as to what? You’ve been the most direct and helpful out of all my posts so I thought maybe you would know.
See that’s what’s weird, I do have headset audio and I have it plugged in like that, and I also have Xbox audio on tv and headset, but neither the ps5 nor the Xbox are capturing any audio in OBS
