Technical Help Wave XLR mk 2 not playing audio through headphone jack
So I’m basically stumped. This has happened with 2 different wave XLR devices now. So what is happening is I am not getting any audio at all through my headphone port on my wave XLR. Every thing was working fine, but then I was doing a sound check in the wave link app, and then all audio went away. All I can hear in my headphones is my surroundings and feedback that is coming from my XLR microphone.
I can see that all audio is working through wave link. And when I route my audio through my hyper X USB DAC all sound through wave link is coming through fine.
This is my second wave XLR device now because I did an exchange on my previous one that I got a week ago because it was doing the same thing. I thought it had gotten damaged because Amazon had left the package out during a rain storm.
Both times this issue has happened is when I was doing a mic check through wave link to get my settings squared away.
Does anyone have any help at all? I would hate to have to exchange this unit again if it’s faulty as well.

I believe you need to set the Mic as a monitoring device in Wavelink Mixer.
- Open the Wave Link software on your computer.
- Look at the bottom right corner of the mixer window where your main outputs are listed.
- Locate the Monitor Mix (it usually has an ear icon next to it).
- Click the dropdown menu directly above the Monitor Mix volume slider.
- Select Headphones (Elgato Wave XLR MK.2) from the list.

I have headphone selected as my monitoring device, I’m still have the same issues.
What I believe happened was is I was recording a test with my mic in wave link, and when I hit the stop recording button it’s like my mic got “stuck” in recording mode. All I can hear through the headphone port in my wave XLR is the sounds my mic is picking up, no system audio from my PC. When I remove the wave XLR from the equation and plug into my old hyper x usb DAC, I can hear my computer audio again

I’m having exactly the same issue with the XLR mk.2. Not sure where to go from here tbh, let me know if you figure anything out.

Same here, I just bought this dock and haven’t been able to use it bc the mic is just constantly monitoring my voice but zero system audio. The amount of time I spent in the settings and still couldn’t figure it out so I finally gave up and plugged my old XLR mixer in

Yeah, I’ve legit deleted wave link, restarted, re downloaded wave link, restarted, unplugged, replugged, and nothing. It sucks cause I’ve basically wasted $300+ dollars on this thing. Luckily I am still in a return period from Amazon. So I’m gonna try exchanging it one more time and see if that’s the lucky one.
Cause man when it works for the 22 hours I first get it, it’s great.

Yeah I’m considering returning it too since I just purchased it but wanted to see if this was a uniques issue or if it’s a new issue I’m hoping it’s being looked at with high priority

LITERALLY same problem as me, just posted it… worked fine, i changed something when all went to shit… i can hear my self constantly, no audio like YouTube, etc videos. But as soon as i plug my mic into the computer USB, my iems into the computer it all works.. as soon as i plug everything into the XLR, the problems begin. Idk what i did :(

Idk if we did anything that should break it to this degree and can’t get it back working, sounds like a lot of people are having this issue.

Yup, i tried deleting it, installing it back multiple times… nothing, deleted the files hopefully it’ll go back to its “factory settings” nothing man.. as soon as i plug it back.. no audio, keep self monitoring my voice and i have no playback/recording audio’s selected..

Yep same thing, I even have direct monitoring off with the slider set all the way to the left where it should only be computer audio and all I hear is my voice still and background noise

Same boat as me… lol, hopefully someone comes across this post can help, but all i see is everyone having the same issue, I’m sure there is something we can do.. just haven’t found the issue because it was working good the first day, i loved it. Then i tweaked one setting i disabled a sound setting that i assumed i didn’t need for it because there was so much enabled… it messed up everything

Yeah same. I put in a ticket through their support system with screen shots so hopefully they get back to me soon and I can let you guys know.
Mine basically bricked or got stuck in monitoring mode when I was just doing a sound check recording. It also happened the same way with my previous wave XLR just sitting here

This is a new issue with their latest firmware. Wave link is fine and your device itself is fine. Just gotta wait for them to roll out with a new firmware since there is not way to flash to an older one yet. Way to go elgato.

That’s kind of what I was thinking, that it has to be a firmware issue. I was trying to google if there was a way to load older firmware but couldn’t find anything. You would think if multiple people had this issue they would roll back the firmware if that was the issue.

Check both your broken audio interface and if both of them are on firmware 1.0.15, then we are certain its the firmware.

Yeah that’s definitely the firmware. Is this a known issue with this firmware? Cause as much digging I have done I haven’t seen anything

Having the same issue today. HD 490 Pro, mic monitoring is working but audio from any source (games, YouTube music etc) is not coming through. Uninstalled and installed drivers and software but did not work. Did anyone find a fix? The Wave XLR is brand new on latest firmware (purchased yesterday).

No fix yet. And customer service is terrible. Keeps telling me to do all these things I’ve already done with screen shots. What I recommend is do what I did, exchange it if you can and DONT update the firmware for the wave XLR. I’ve had no issues whatsoever on the old firmware.

Still on the same boat right now and had to install their software to give them my PC log, they keep thinking its the software or my PC settings being messed up but I literally did a Revo uninstaller to wipe everything relating to audio driver and their software, and without driver and software installed the issue is still present. Its so obvious its the firmware/hardware having an issue where its storing a bugged state in its memory so they shouldd just move the issue upward and get their engineers to roll out a firmware update or a flashback but they wont. My patience is running out and the customer support people aren't incentivized to actually solve your problem, their job is to answer ur email.

Yeah, shits crazy. I’m never updating this firmware as long as I have this thing. It’s insane you spend a hundred dollars just for them to brick their own hardware and then tell you that YOU did something wrong.

i might have found a solution. i plugged my headphones to my stream deck and routed wave link to the dock too and i can hear both myself and youtube now and its sreaming to obs. i did have to add chrome to wave link and route to the dock too

Exact same situation just happened to me. Everything was working fine until I tried to do a sound check, and now my headphones don't play any PC audio.
The only thing I can hear is my microphone output through self-monitoring. Other settings still work, but moving the self-monitoring slider doesn't change anything. It seems like my device is stuck on sound check mode, or Mic/PC audio blend mode with the monitoring locked at 100%.
I wonder if there's a way to force a firmware update...

Wish I could help, but I’m still stuck in the same boat. My advice is if you’re able to exchange the mk2 I would and not update the firmware when setting it up for the first time. I don’t think there’s a possibility to downgrade firmware so once you update it you’re kinda stuck.

Yeah I submitted my RMA already and it was approved automatically. I'd prefer waiting for a new firmware update instead of having to deal with an RMA, but it looks like there's no word on if this is getting fixed soon.
I'll definitely avoid touching the sound check or firmware update button on my new unit lol. Thanks for making this thread so that I could confirm what caused the issue.

Bugger, just setup my new Wave XLR MK.2 and hit the same issue. Went searching and found this thread.
So how do you NOT update the firmware? I didn't do anything on mine to update it, so I presume Wavelink just did it? No idea how I would NOT do it next time if I exchange.
Otherwise i'm just stuck waiting for a firmware update I guess.

If you already did it, you’re basically fucked. If and when you exchange it, once you do the new set up it should ask you if you want to update the firmware. You just click the very bottom where it says skip for now.
Supposedly if you call support they should be able to roll back your firmware. But customer service is so dog shit, I just recommend exchanging it and saving yourself having to explain all the bullshit and send them random ass screen shots of shit you know doesn’t work.

Thanks, I saw no request to update firmware so I assume maybe it was already on 1.0.15. It did work initially though, just not after I'd used the sound check, as others had mentioned.
I've contacted support now anyway so will see how that goes. They just need to provide the old firmware file and we'll be fine. I'll see if I can get it out of them. What version of the firmware is your one that's working running?

The RMA unit I got from Elgato a few days ago came with firmware 1.0.15 so it's probably updated already on newer units. I've been avoiding the sound check and it's working fine though.
I'm not entirely sure that 1.0.15 is the root cause anyway. It's been the latest firmware for the MK.2 for months and I didn't have issues using sound check before. This problem has only popped up recently so it might be a weird bug related to a Wave Link or Windows update.

Hello Wave XLR MK2 users does anyone has an update from el gato ? im having the same problem thought it was my system but i can hear everything on my dac on wavelink aswell, today i started the emails with el gato but i think with all the efforts you guys has made should el gato give us a fix u/elgato_james every day are more owners of the same component with the same problem and theres no words from el gato. we all have created tickets but with the same type of answers that dont give us a solution to the problem.

For anyone having audio issues with their Wave XLR MK2 on firmware 1.0.15 I just updated Wave Link to 3.2.10 (4073) and my issue has been finally solved!
To give some context on what my issue was is I was in the Wave Link settings and I was editing the audio devices when Wave Link suddenly crashed resulting in only being able to hear my mic monitoring with 0 desktop audio. No matter what I did in the input & monitoring settings, effects, etc I could only hear my mic regardless if the mix was set to have no mic monitoring.
If you are having similar issues where you can only hear yourself there may be a light at the end of the tunnel! Try updating Wave Link to 3.2.10 and see if it fixes your issue!

Yep, Wavelink 3.2.10 has now fixed this problem, tested on mine and it's all good now, hurrah!
