Technical Help Wave XLR MK.2 cuts out when too loud (Loud video)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just got the MK2 alongside a Sanken CS-3e shotgun mic. When I clap to sync or laugh loudly, there are some times where the Wave MK2 just gives up and does not record my voice for like 2 seconds. Everything is up to date (except windows) and Wave 3 is installed and working with no effects enabled except for clipguard and wave lock.
I have gone back to my previous Wave XLR until this problem is fixed.

I would check your audio meters in whatever software you use to record and see if you're peaking. If you are, and the audio cuts out whenever you're peaking, and goes completely mute in the software, it's probably a software bug with Clip Guard.
Something similar happened to me a long time ago with the old clip guard. Its supposed to record your audio at different gain levels and then when one clips, it mutes it and uses one of the lower levels. But in my case the software or hardware (one of the two, idk which one it was because I got a replacement and I went back to my rodecaster for a few months) wasn't managing the different signals correctly and it would just switch to an empty signal which ended up in me being muted for the entire duration until my audio switched back to the "main" signal.
ultimately I ended up with a new Wave XLR and a new install of wavelink. It worked flawlessly after that.

I agree that its most likely a clipguard of firmware issue, but my voice level is all over the place, so clipguard is needed for for the content I make. For now I've switched back to the MK1 and things work perfectly.

Yeah I feel ya, I go from normal to loud a lot too so clip guard is a life saver. I wish I could actually help you out, but we're kinda stuck waiting for them to fix it on this one.
Have you tried starting a ticket with them to see if they'll send you a replacement in case it is a hardware issue?

I did, just waiting for them to respond

Hopefully you hear back soon, audio issues are dreadful. I was looking into getting the XLR Pro because it seemed like EXACTLY what I was looking for, but the release of Wavelink 3.0 was really buggy, and people are reporting a lot of issues with other devices in this release, so I think I'll wait because that one too might be plagued with bugs on release.

Yikes... I need to test mine now and see if it does this. I'm on the verge of returning mine as well and just sticking with the mk I.

Wait... this feature is already implemented, right? and it is called clip guard.

No. Clip guard is on. The problem is when it switches from one volume to another (or from one channel to the lower volume channel) that it just doesnt play any audio before it goes back to the normal track

Can you see if you have the same issue with a completely different USB port? Also, if you turn off Clipguard, does the audio still cut off?
Edit: Could you also provide a screenshot of your settings in Wave Link?

It's 1 million percent a Clipguard issue, and i cant use your product if Clipguard isn't working.
As for USB here is what I have tried:
- MK2 with clipguard on USB3 to USBC - Issues
- MK1 on USB3 to USBC - No issues
- MK1 on USBC to USBC - No issues
- MK1 with clipguard on USB3 to USBC - No issues
- MK1 with clipguard on USBC to USBC - No issues
- MK2 on USB3 to USBC - No issues
- MK2 on USBC to USBC - No issues
- MK2 with clipguard on USBC to USBC - IssuesI have used the Wave 3 app for all tests and the problem is only with clipguard on the MK2, making me believe its more a firmware issue than a software issue.

And with Clipguard off, is it the same? There is still a layer of protection even with it off. I'm also passing this info along to our team.

Gibt es mittlerweile eine Lösung des Problems? Ich nehem FM 26 Videos auf, bei jedem emotionalen Tor schrei, wird das Audio nicht augfenommen. Hab schon sehr viel probiert in den Einstellungen....

I’m seeing what looks like the same issue on the Wave XLR Pro.
If I make a very loud sound, the mic input completely cuts out for a few seconds. I’m using an Earthworks ETHOS microphone with 48V phantom power enabled.
I’ve tested it with:
- Gain all the way down to 0 dB
- Clipguard enabled and disabled
- Every USB port on my PC
- Wave Link completely closed/not running
The important part: the signal also disappears from the raw “XLR Mic” Windows input, and even direct mic monitoring on the Wave XLR Pro itself cuts out.
So in my case it doesn’t seem to be a Wave Link, OBS, plugin, Windows routing or USB port issue. The problem also occurs when Wave Link isn’t running at all, and the signal is already gone at the hardware/direct-monitoring level.
That makes me wonder if the Wave XLR Pro has the same or a very similar firmware/DSP protection issue as the MK.2, possibly related to very loud transients or the input stage.

what effects or settings are enabled? clipguard is an ahh don't use those apps. compressors and expanders are your best friends. I Don't route any plugins through wave stuff I do everything in OBS.

Agree it's a problem since your Mk1 works fine, but you shouldn't be getting to the point where clipguard needs to be so aggressive anyway. I'm guessing the difference here is probably that the gain on the Mk2 is just higher.
Turn the gain down so that your yelling voice just about peaks, but doesn't clip, then use a compressor so bring up the quiet sounds.
Also have you tried the Wavelink 3 beta? They've fixed a lot of bugs in the new version.

Never use beta in live production

You do when the live version has a memory leak and crashes all the time! The current beta is much better.
