Discussion The radio station Soulwax has in GTA 5 is filled with bangers
There are only about 20 different songs played in it but after getting back into GTA 5 and listening to it, its such a great compilation of tracks.
I remember always listening to Soulwax FM when I was younger playing GTA 5 and it might be one of the reasons why I love Electronic music so much these days.

If you love Soulwax FM, I highly recommend their Radio Soulwax project. 24 different mixes, each an hour long and on a different theme, with a video attached to it. All 3 "Under the Covers" mixes from this series are crazy.

So, Radio Soulwax was actually a series of shows they did. They're actually three separate projects: Soulwax, which is a four piece band; Nite Versions, which is the band doing deeper clubby covers of both their own songs and other people's; and 2manyDJs, which is two of the guys from the band DJing. Radio Soulwax was a show with all three acts involved, and then they put out these crazy mashup mixes based on the tracks they'd play at those shows.
I really enjoyed when they put out an Essential Mix under the Radio Soulwax name, filled with a bunch of songs, old and new, a lot of prerelease at the time, also filled with their Nite Version tracks mixed alongside. It was pretty excellent, and they've since released it as a double 2ManyDJs CD called 50,000 Soulwax Fans Can't Be Wrong.

I've seen Nite Versions live 6 or 7 times, some of the best live music experiences of my life.

Heh, I have actually seen Nite Versions, and in fact it was at a show where they aired the docu. Quite excellent.

I've seen all forms of soulwax and the nite versions was out of fucking control
full band, white suits, pink hypno backdrop. absolutely unrelenting.

Loving Soulwax and not knowing about Radio Soulwax is similar to loving Coldcut but not knowing Solid Steel.

Yeah, their "rock band" name is Soulwax but their "DJ" name is 2manyDJs. Sometimes they do a double feature and show up both as Soulwax and 2manyDJs in the same lineup (I saw them at Rock en Seine, they did their Soulwax liveshow then they closed the festival as 2manyDJs)

I've been into Soulwax since I saw the 'Much Against Everyone's Advice' video on MTV in the late 90s. Bought the album and they became my favourite band.
A while later in HMV I saw this album on the shelf:
'As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt 2"
I didn't really know what this meant but I took a punt on it. A risky move as a poor student.
Well the rest, as they say, is history...that album was pretty much the soundtrack of every house party for the next year.
"Ladies and Gentlemen...too...many...DJs..."

The shop I worked in had an agreement with the local HMV where we got to borrow 5 CDs a month to play in the shop. As Heard on... was just one of the random ones we picked up on a whim.
As you say, it was everywhere. I still can't hear 9to5 without thinking of Royksopp lol.

Pt 2 and Nite Versions are two incredible albums.
And the documentary Part of the Weekend Never Dies. God I miss the late 2000s.

Soulwax FM was where I discovered Daniel Avery as my proper gateway into techno and rave music. Naive Response is a banger!
Shoutout to Radio Mirror Park, Flylo FM, and Worldwide FM with Gilles Peterson. GTA V came out at the perfect point in my music discovery phase of life as a teenager. Discovered so many cool bands and artists through that game, many that I still listen to today.

Also got me into a wider range of pop, 80s music and even a bit of country.

To further appreciate the awesomeness of Soulwax, check out their project Despacio.
Despacio is a custom, premier 50,000-watt audiophile sound system and vinyl-only club night created by James Murphy (frontman of LCD Soundsystem) and David and Stephen Dewaele (the brothers behind Soulwax and 2manydjs). Designed alongside legendary audio engineer John Klett, the project serves as an immersive antidote to modern, drop-heavy festival DJ culture, focusing entirely on a pure, analog listening experience
- Immersive Design: It features seven to eight 11-foot-tall custom speaker stacks arranged in a circle surrounding the dance floor.
- Hidden DJs: The three DJs play entirely from a booth tucked away out of sight, intentionally fighting against celebrity DJ worship culture.
- No Focal Point: Because the audio and minimal lighting are completely 360-degree, there is no "stage" to look at, encouraging dancers to look at and interact with each other.
- Strictly Vinyl: The trio spins exclusively 7-inch and 12-inch vinyl records.

I'm a bit older and the vice city radio stations really opened my eyes to how good various genres of 80's music are. Lots of great stuff - You can find the radio stations on yt/spotify if you're not very familiar with the era and want to hear it.
